every artist who has ever attempted to satirize masculinity i am so sorry

you could name a movie Portrait of a delusional abuser ruining his own life in pursuit of a fictional standard of manhood and 89% of its fanbase would still be like "Fuck yeah man it was so cool when Shit Cumdick gave that badass speech about how pushing everyone away and never letting yourself feel emotions is actually a good idea for your life. fuckin dope flick"

top 3 pavitr prabhakar moments:

  • "and this is where the british stole all of our stuff!"
  • "now let me guess you're gonna ask me about saffron and cardamom and naan bread which is the same as saying bread bread which is the same as saying CHAI TEA >:(" "oh i love chai tea" "NO"
  • "well that was another easy adventure for spider-ma---" [everything explodes]

Love the difference between Prowler Miles and Spider Miles. Prowler Miles has a deeper voice and a thicker Puerto Rican accent because he was raised by his mom. Since his dad died, he was left with his mom and picked up her accent. He was also raised by his uncle, the original Prowler, so he has a more menacing walk and stance. He is much more confident with less fear and empathy to soften him up. They could've had the same hair style and the same clothes, but you will still be able to tell which Miles is the Spider and which one is the Prowler. Love the attention to detail when it comes to characterization.

I've been totally fixated on the fact that gwen stays with hobie when she's not on spider-team missions so here's some fun notes

gwen says that hobie lets her crash in his universe- not "house" or "place" or "apartment", because hobie is homeless

she wears his chucks (how is she fitting into his shoes?) which is funny because hobie's original spider-punk costume included him wearing chucks, but in the movie he only wears boots

in the comics, the gwen stacy of earth-138 was, in hobie's words, "the greatest artist of [their] generation" who died a punk-rock legend, and hobie was/is a big fan of hers. gwen thinks his universe is cool and thinks it's extra cool that she's famous there, so his universe is probably something of a comfort place for her

gwen is apparently in his band (possibly his friend group which he calls the spider-band despite the fact that they're not actually a band and the others are not spideys), though gwen once rejected hobie's proposal of making an album together because his singing voice is awful (still, this was after they saved the world by playing punk rock together)

also, it's interesting to read "coming out as a superhero" as a queer allegory and it works in this situation as it parallels queer kids being kicked out of their homophobic homes and staying with friends in the aftermath

anyways. support the gwen and hobie besties agenda <3

underrated part of across the spiderverse was the doubling, tripling, quadrupaling down on the fact that no matter what universe, no matter who's spiderman, jk simmons will ALWAYS be j jonah jameson

Across the spiderverse said “oh you guys liked the experimental animation style of the last movie? bet” and cranked it up to ten billion and i thank them for that

hobie was so obviously not rocking wit the elite spider society since the start,, he knew somethin was up

why else would he steal shit and help miles escape from the laser cage?? he was bein a major instigator,,the first to get rid of his watch and didnt join in on the chase for miles

side note the part where hes interacting wit mayday is just too cute for my heart to handle,, 'takin a crap on the establishment?? i salute u' silly silly silly

anyways all of hobies screentime was just absolute perfection.
