Now that the show’s done, I want to try my hand at breaking down this mural

The mural is of Rose fighting what looks to be White Diamond, though White’s gem is placed in her chest rather than her forehead (this is the spot where White is holding her hands around an orb of light in her mural on the Moon Base).

Rose is on one side, large and clear, among a bunch of smaller, body-shaped figures, which represent her army. On the other side, we see White, surrounded by Diamonds, which represent her subordinates/her army/everyone under her rule. Rose’s army is drawn like figures and White’s army is drawn as Diamonds, showing that Rose’s army has free-will and are full and whole beings acting for their own ideals, while White’s army are all just doing her will, mindlessly, like a bunch of little White’s (this also mirrors White’s powers).

White is not squaring off against Rose directly, but is rather holding out her hand, commanding the Pink Diamond forward, against Rose. This is meant to represent White remotely commanding Pink against the rebellion, that Pink’s actions are also just the extension of White’s will. The whole mural is basically showing Rose leading her rebellion against Pink Diamond, who is simply another pawn of White, who is behind it all.

The fact that the mural goes a level above Pink Diamond, to show that this war is Rose against White Diamond, shows that the war went way past just defending Earth. It was deeper than Pink Diamond, it went all the way up to homeworld. It was a fight against White, against the whole system; it was a true rebellion for the freedom of gemkind, and it almost succeeded in tearing the empire apart.

It wasn’t just some reckless game that Pink was playing that went too far, it was a plea for freedom for the million of lives that were suffering every day on the empire. And I for one think that’s neat
