I love reading stuff on abstract geometry because there'll be some extremely complicated construction of abstract polytopes that takes up like two full pages

and the first example is this

and you're like "wow that's a cube :)"

and then the next example is this

polycules are getting crazy

They should replace bones with these things…

New Debate Tactic: Forcing your opponent to argue against their own position by agreeing with them for objectively wrong reasons.

Before you say “religion”...

Take a moment and ask yourself a few questions:

- Do you mean just 1 religion?

- Do you know enough about the all worlds religions to make a potentially harmful generalization about all of them?

- Are you making assumptions about other religions based off of your experience with one religion?

- Are you making assumptions about other religions and cultures based on your limited experience with a single person or group of people from said religion or culture?

- Are you taking out your valid frustrating, anger, hurt, and pain with one religious group on people who have nothing to do with it by making a generalization?

If you don’t actually mean the every single one of the vast, diverse, multi-faceted religions in the world, don’t make a blanket statement and list the one(s) you mean specifically. This also goes for using ‘grouping’ labels that do not apply, like Abrahamic, etc.

This bullshit is so fucking common that I have multiple memes for it.

Also, people using “Abrahamic” can’t name more than 3 without using google.

Half the time it’s not even all of Christianity, just the conservative evangelical variety in the USA.

been thinking lately about how the scientific worldview changes your conception of your body. like, before proper medical study of the human body, it just...*did stuff*. vaginas bleed on a roughly lunar cycle, and then stop when a woman is pregnant! imagine for a moment that this is not a fact you can fit an anatomical perspective, that you do not know the phrase "uterine lining". this is a spooky thing! this is mysterious, and i mean, its blood and life and sex, all mixed together conceptually. i feel like it totally makes sense that societies got weird about menstruation. or like, all the various aches and pains of life, sickness, aging, these were not part of some coherent framework, they were fundamentally inexplicable! you had what, some guesses for what caused it? certainly no good cures for most of it. what cures you had were as mysterious as the illness themself

and this is like...significant, for ones understand of ones self! the view from which your body is this mysterious unpredictable thing with elaborate rules it just breaks sometimes. its different, from a modern mechanistic way, in ways that are meaningful to self-conception

sorry im not a “picky eater” nor am I “spoiled” i’m neuroatypical and my safe foods are ortolan bunting,veal tartare, lobster with browned butter and a microgreen foam, duck fois gras with a white truffle remoulade, A5 Wagyu, and o-toro sashimi purchased directly from tsukiji market in toyko. please educate yourself

Genuinely surprised at how many people don't make the connection between the platonic elements and states of matter.

Earth = Solid

Water = Liquid

Air = Gas

Fire = Plasma

"CT they wouldn't have known what a plasma was" they didn't know what a gas was either. That's the whole point. They're observing the same physical phenomena we are, but they don't have the body of knowledge that we do.

what about supercritical fluids, degenerate matter, bose-einstein condensates, fermi condensates, quark-gluon plasma, and colour-glass condensates, though?

Plato didn't write about those because his brain was tiny and shrivelled like a raisin.

CT I realized this 15 years ago I just didn’t make a post about it

Do better next time

CT i will be discovering this in a few weeks after I go through an intense exploration of my own psyche to find out wonderful things about me. not right now though im worrying about my new car and becoming an amazing Dee Jay player in SF6

That's badass I hope you learn a bunch of other cool shit

the default way for things to taste is good. we know this because "tasty" means something tastes good. conversely, from the words "smelly" and "noisy" we can conclude that the default way for things to smell and sound is bad. interestingly there are no corresponding adjectives for the senses of sight and touch. the inescapable conclusion is that the most ordinary object possible is invisible and intangible, produces a hideous cacophony, smells terrible, but tastes delicious. and yet this description matches no object or phenomenon known to science or human experience. so what the fuck

this is what ancient greek philosophy is like

> “Oh, I’m on vacation I should take this time to do some *light* reading.”

> Is silly and only brings extremely difficult books because I’m hyperfixating.

> Goes out every day and comes back exhausted.

> “I can’t wait to relax to a good book.”

> Heidegger. Fuck.

Every time I see some gamerbro edit of a female video game character to make her 'prettier', I always see something I have mentally dubbed Cockroach Wife Syndrome (in honor of the guy who accidentally conditioned himself to only be aroused by a fantasy of his cockroach wife Ogtha).

That is to say, there is a certain subset of gamerbro who interacts so rarely with real women, that his primary touchstone for how women look is fiction: often video games and anime. So when a video game woman looks too realistic--too close to having traits that one might find in real flesh and blood women--this is foreign to them. This is unattractive. They have been jacking it to hentai and blender animation porn for too many years, and have inadvertently conditioned themselves to only be sexually aroused by the exaggerated cartoonish traits of animated women.

So now every time I see one such edit, I can't help but think. My. What a coincidence you've made her look more like an anime waifu. Truly dedicated to your cockroach wife.

You can’t just breeze over something like “the guy who accidentally conditioned himself to only be aroused by a fantasy of his cockroach wife Ogtha” without at least linking a 20 minute video breakdown of this man’s descent into madness.

Oh is Ogtha not common knowledge? Eight years ago this was posted on reddit:

Two years ago, we got this update on the life of this roachfucker:

TLDR it's a guy who became obsessed with human-sized roaches with human intelligence after reading Kafka in high school, an obsession which eventually came to monopolize his romantic interests (and has sporadically had catastrophic impacts on his life ever since).

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Note that the context of this GIF is that Zelda suspects the frog in question is psychoactive and is attempting to convince Link to eat it so that she can observe his reaction and determine whether she’s right.

Whether that makes it less romantic or more is left as an exercise for the reader.

no it's romantic. doing experiments on you is one of the main ways that girls show romance

The cosmic agony of having one interest you think about constantly but never talk about because it’s the universally agreed upon annoying-person-interest.
