On March 15, 2019, a white supremacist murdered over 50 people at the Christchurch mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is the deadliest mass shooting in modern New Zealand history. In response, the New Zealand Prime Minister announced that all military-style semi-automatic weapons, assault rifles and high-capacity magazines will be banned. The Christchurch massacre is another example of the rise in white supremacy and the escalation of violence around the world because of far right wing extremism; it is also an example of how other countries respond to gun control in the wake of a mass shooting. Activists gathered in Times Square, NY to stand united against Islamophobia and white supremacy.

America’s President may learn from New Zealand’s way of terminating hate crimes; people standing together against EvIL.

A Challenge for You

Grab yourself a beverage Get comfy in a chair I have a simple question For you while you’re there. What have you stopped doing? What used to bring you bliss? Sometimes the world intervenes But these things we surely miss. Are you up for a challenge? Take steps to this thing restart For you deserve that special thing That brings joy to your heart.

Last year I went back to roller skating, after not having skated for 30 years. I was surprised at how fast it came back - muscle memory is remarkable. It has brought me much satisfaction and joy.

What can you go back to?

My philosophical journey has convinced me that we cannot understand ourselves if we do not understand others. Getting to know others requires avoiding the twin dangers of overestimating either how much we have in common or how much divides us. Our shared humanity and the perennial problems of life mean that we can always learn from and identify with the thoughts and practices of others, no matter how alien they might at first appear. At the same time, differences in ways of thinking can be both deep and subtle. If we assume too readily that we can see things from others’ points of view, we end up seeing them from merely a variation of our own.

Julian Baggini in The Guardian. About time: why western philosophy can only teach us so much

By gaining greater knowledge of how others think, we can become less certain of the knowledge we think we have, which is always the first step to greater understanding.

The TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH so help me love

When you invite a guest into your space, there is an implicit expectation you will be on your best behaviour. In fact, visiting is one of the things that deeply informs Métis being. Hosting and being hosted is one of the ways we build up our nationhood, renew kinship obligations, and restore relationality. We take hosting, and being hosted, very seriously. This goes beyond visiting and hosting, though. It stretches into the very fabric of academia. To how we conceive of how to be and how to formulate knowledge. But the casual dismissal of pervasive white settler hostility in academe is conspicuous when juxtaposed with how frequently any form of refusal or accountability from Indigenous scholars (and BIPOC scholars) is immediately parsed as inexcusably hostile. Isn’t it a little rich for white scholars to be able to be dismissive, rude, to raise their voices, to shout, to bodily intimate people, to go out of their way to humiliate Indigenous and other scholars? But if we so much as firmly refuse this, let alone openly address it, we are unprofessional and shrill? Marked as ‘difficult’ and whispered about by the very people who take glee in ‘cutting us down a peg’ at any opportunity?

There is something in your smile which speaks to me, Something in your voice which sings to me, Something in your eyes which says to me, That you are dearest to me. Happy New Year To My Love!!

TO the kind and the loving, to the unkind and the unloving, may 2019 bring love and more love to all. HAPPY NEW YEAR

Now is this explicit? 😂😂😂

As sad as it maybe for some, I am glad that tumblr has taken the stance to end porn on it’s site. There are probably millions of porns sites that folk can search to see porn. For the safety of children in this sexualised world. We adults (most of us; I hope) have the Knowledge and know how to deal with porn. So thank you tumblr for taking such a public stance; you may lose many but you will gain from I at least GREAT RESPECT. People who understand will come TUMBR -LING forward or back, to appreciate your funny, sometimes crazy (nice crazy), sad, beautiful, funny, artistic poets, writers, photographers; folk from all backgrounds, countries; life. I have learned so much from this Beautiful community. I have laughed, cried. Been breathless from the pictures of skies, seas, flowers, places... Grateful to all. Once again MANY THANKS and many tumbr-lings..

I realized that it is okay not to be soft. It’s okay not to give people dulcet words and flowers; that it is okay to grow thickets of willows on my skin; that it is not bad to brush people with the wind and its redolence of coppice. I realized that it is okay to be tough and I should not beat myself up for coming off too strong to people. For tough isn’t the opposite of kind; tough isn’t the opposite of warm either. And if they say that strength is the opposite of kindness, then I’m sorry, but I do not want to be kind at all.
