I think more leftists and progressives need to understand how the ATF is a completely insane bureaucratic fascist nightmare that, in some ways, is arguably worse than the FBI. They have thusfar unchallenged authority to interpret and enforce the law at-will, and regularly go out of their way to establish new precedent just to get a conviction, even if it contradicts previous rulings of their own.

I think it should also be noted that these sorts of rulings on what constitutes an illegal weapon are what they used to justify jailing and killing dissidents. That only really changed once the war on drugs fully took off and it was easier to sell "these people have funny cigarettes" than "these people were terrorists with illegal weapons." Remember, the pretense for the raid that murdered Hampton was illegal weapons.

If your response to learning about how evil the ATF is is to suggest that somebody (who??? the ATF???) gate the right to self defense behind a federal determination of who is """sane""" enough you should probably shut the fuck up about everything forever, shred all forms of identification, and never leave your home again.
