Can we please talk about how menacing Raiden looks in this shot? The camera is doing the typical “we (audience) are inferior to him” angle, and even though we’re excitedly happy after beating Armstrong’s bullshit fight, these two shots make me feel like a horrible person after doing that. I might be thinking too deep with this, but it seems like to me that Raiden might be breaking the 4th wall and looking down upon the player in a demeanor like “You made me do this.“ He hasn’t wiped the blood off of his face either, making the moment more jarring and reflective of his old self, like wearing the blood as a trophy. All in all, this scene makes me believe that Raiden is thinking to himself, ”Thank you for making me a horrible murderer, you piece of shit.”

Also, what a contrast between the Raiden we see here and the smiling, vaguely human-shaped creature we see in the opening scenes of the game. I was kind of scared by Raiden in this cutscene; I definitely think it was a moment where the player was forced to stop and really consider what they (Raiden) had done, without the comfort of a supposedly just rationale (“protecting the weak”, etc). 

He’s also kind of posed like the stereotypical hero here — the sun shining behind him, his enemy crumpled, defeated at his feet — but when we zoom in to see his face, we realize he’s not exactly triumphant.
