i got this url when i was still calling FFXIV the worst mmo ever.

I’ve been working on my viera with rp partner and this is Harjn!! I don’t know how to draw and I forgot to save the original art so I’m trying to salvage it. I really wanted to go heavily on the ffxii texture look because I love it so much also idk how hair works

i didnt want to add this onto ashy’s post cause its her opinion but i think something really cool would be the woodwarder outfit being starting gear and a like slightly less detailed salve maker gear as under garments

Just saying my thoughts!!

I don’t want to jump on any post but as a long time Ivalice fan I would like to at least say something. I’ve loved the series since I was 13 and I know some perspective of the game is from the series itself or from an outside perspective. I know Fran’s outfit is super iconic! But there better outfits I feel that could have been used…

this is image heavy so I apologize!!

The wood warder outfit could have been better I personally feel because there’s more too it. It does still retain elements thought of how the original race armor is from the concept art but it does reflect better on how we’ve seen some of the starter race gear for girls which still isn’t…the best. Looking at Hyur and Miqo’te with the skirts and panties. But even from there!! There have been SO many nice outfits used for the Viera that I really hope could be possibly implemented.

These jobs are from FFTA2! Spellblade, Assassin, and Sniper. Three of my favorite jobs with outfits that work super well with the viera frame. Even Green Mage had cute armor as well!!

I really do hope there could have been maybe more variety in terms of what was showcased. I know that Fran is pretty much eye-candy and her design is iconic for her being her but I don’t think all Viera have to be like that. As much as I love FF12 I’m more attached to how the Viera are dressed in the Advance games. They have a variety of outfits both skimpy and practical.

I understand the frustration too with the skin tones as I’m a little sad to see how it went. I know the Feol Viera are a big thing a handful of people wanted to see as a sub race but I feel it sadly wouldn’t work considering that they are more or less extinct in the Ivalice series in Revenant Wings when Mydia a feol viera herself killed her entire race of people. I think darker skin tones should have been showcased more! Viera definitely have a variety of them. There’s subtle skin tones with the Advance Viera I posted but I did look at screens of Fran and her sisters

I apologize for eye dropping them! I really wanted to showcase the amount of coloration that is in the skin tone in terms of lights and darks from the base models. I know I was sad not seeing what was given to us and I don’t want to hold my breath with what may happen but I am sure or rather I’m hoping this will be done right. I know one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters in the series has sadly been white washed..(Firion from Final Fantasy II orz).

I can understand the frustration that people do feel in regards to what was presented to us with the Viera. We haven’t seen much action from them since FFTA2 which was a hand held I’m sure not a majority of the fandom may have not played. I enjoyed how they were portrayed and I hope that maybe they’ll draw from how Viera developed in the side games but who knows!

I know people will design Viera OCs however they liked and that’s valid! It’s your OCs and you can create them! I guess what I’m saying is coming from a long time fan at least view some of the frustrations people do view. I know the Viera showcase was a rushed prototype to give a general idea of what we had but it did make me tilt my head some to see them not fully portrayed as they’ve always been in the series.

Things could have been handled a lot better and I’m praying down the road by the time we see more at Tokyo Fanfest and even when Shadowbringers launched that things will be better.

This post is more my personal feelings as an Ivalice fan just wanting to say how I feel with what’s happened since I really honest to god love this world but it’s hard for me to articulate my words very well haha

I know it's probably not my place to say but your English is really good!

I’d hope so I’ve been living in an English speaking country long enough but my household speaks both my native languages and I travel a lot so sometimes with English I’m just like

They are just asking a question...Jesus

It wasn’t a question it just happened to be a statement that ended in a question mark in order for it to try and not come off as a confident one because they know they’re not 100% I had also explained my point in detail in the original post they had been referencing.

I can read and don't understand how you can argue Xaela are anything but Mongolian. Also that's some broken Mongolian, good job on the google translate!

ok well i didn’t say they were i meant like there are other cultures that fall under the same umbrella ya fucking dumb ass. i am literally a tatar and have family married into other cultures under the same umbrella.

literally the mongolian empire wasn’t just mongolians it was many tribes absorbed to create the empire, such as the keraites, khamag mongol, naiman, mergid, and THE TATAR. WHAT I AM.

because of this turkic cultures are very similar, i can understand words in uyghur, kazak and altay. mongolian too. in game there are some things that are added that even i dont think the dev team understands is leaning more towards a certain group or tribe. literally if i went to visit another village that was perhaps uyghur we’d be doing the same shit with different details.

like please don’t try and think you know it all because you >THINK

also i was speaking tatar but sure go ahead with “broken mongolian” despite modern day mongolian is actually written in cyrillic script????????????????????????????????? what are you on

Anonymous asked:

I'm not too sure about Xaela being really outside of anything Mongolian? I mean considering the language and textiles used are very inherently Mongolian I don't understand your argument.

Min nıq yütällim!!!!!!!!!!!! Xäwefle LMAO learn to read

everyone and their dog is doing it and everyone is absolutely allowed to share their opinions so i want a turn but first let me clarify:

hello im yase, been around since 1.0. I am of turkish and nogai descent and i can speak fluently in tatar, turkish but my english doesn’t hold 100% so i will be all over the place.

Unfortunately this will all be word of mouth and may be taken as vague posting, but I have experienced issues since the release of 4.0 and would like to give my opinions. I want to let this all off my chest this is just a huge vent basically so i guarantee my english will be terrible.

Would you mind elaborating on some of the harmful tropes you mentioned regarding Xaela? It is difficult to know if it's necessary to correct one's behavior or character without knowing what the problems are, and this might not necessarily be self-evident by doing research into irl culture without the perspective needed to notice any issues in the first place

Not… self-evident? It should go without saying that when you decide to write a character from a culture that you do not belong to yourself, you should put in the research to learn about said culture. That should be your first inclination when you make that decision.

If you have done so then you should have enough basis knowledge and the common sense not to do anything that seems out of the realm of feasible. It’s when people don’t do this that you get issues. It’s not hard to be respectful of the culture your character takes influence from.

Sorry to steal your ask but it’s really not that hard to be like “HELLO FFXIV COM IS ANYONE OF ___ BACKGROUND I WOULD REALLY LIKE YOUR INPUT AND WOULD LIKE TO LEARN OF YOUR CULTURE” its a big community and easy to show respect towards others just saying cause as someone of turkic/turkish background I have seen some shit. I saw someone name their character Fork in my language. Also people using Kanji incorrectly I SAW SOMEONE NAMED 猿 COME ON GUYS! Also what is the fascination with belly dancing? There are so many other cool cultural dances and in game even im, the yol dance is based off dances from real life cultures? belly dancer is boring its been beaten to death, be a dervish *(dont actually do this i’ll kill you with my bare hands)

Please, if you have the platform, ask for some help. It’s not that hard. I’m always asking so I can not only make a character that is respectful towards other cultures but I don’t come off looking like a dumb ass who is fetishizing elements of a culture I don’t understand. Not only will it help you but it could also help others who have no idea how to approach certain cultures.

Because I feel like this needs to be said, as I’ve seen a lot of it recently…

Please do some research into the cultures your ocs are portraying. While FFXIV is full of fantasy races from made up places, they are based on real world equivalents with vast and intricate cultures. The least you can do is be respectful of them by putting in some base level research into them when creating your characters.

Please, enough with the badly researched, harmful trope reliant, butchered “cultural flair.”

Cultures develop differently for a reason, there are aspects of certain cultures that you cannot conflate. There is a large part of people that develop because of, and through, their culture. So to disregard that aspect of someone doesn’t make a lot of sense.

We have so much lore and the entire library of the internet at our fingertips, the VERY LEAST we can do is use them. Because the alternative is ignorance and it’s not acceptable

Big Big Recommendation!

Since a lot of my followers (or mutrals) also seem to RP Xaela - and since their culture is widely based on Mongolia, I wanted to recommend this manga for y'all’s viewing pleasure.
Especially since the artist/writer did a lot of research, and even though you don’t gotta follow such things to a T, the visuals and practices and atmospheres all are absolutely gorgeous.
It’s worth reading even if you don’t rp a tribal Xaela! It’s just a great book overall.
Also, please consider purchasing the actual book to support the author. 💕

A Bride’s Story (乙嫁語り / Otoyomegatari)

By Kaoru Mori

There are ten volumes thus far and as far as I know, she’s still working on them!

it’s personally important for me to point out that the manga is set near the caspian sea, so though all the characters are steppe nomads or have nomadic roots, their cultures and visual styles are turkic in origin, and distinct from mongolian cultures and visual styles. (conversely the xaela 1:1 draw inspiration from mongolia)

THAT BEING SAID otoyomegatari is my favorite piece of historical fiction and incredibly visually appealing besides, and you had better bet MY xaela characters draw heavy inspiration from its influence

Also respectful and good to know! Thank you for adding to the post! (I hope you don’t mind that I grabbed your tags because it was also very good)

hello your local Turkic person here

how do i say this without just reiterating some points above

Turkic people are very diverse and its beautiful in this manga, but it barely touches the roots of all these cultures that even today are dying out and I get so happy seeing Xaela with this base but can I just say that most descended from Göktürks and other Mongolians? Our culture when you have a closer look away from adaptations like this are very similar in the roots of Mongolian culture. Not all Turkic people came to be the same way but as someone who is heavily trying to keep her culture alive, I would like to mention there are actually a few tidbits in the Xaela lore and in the steppe in game that give gentle nods to my people as we are extremely diverse. So I find it really limiting to say the Xaela are just 1:1 Mongolian when there are literally some references to not only Turkic people but other cultures who have or had at some point occupied a piece of that land in real life.

oh man do i like drawing girls and their thighs and lesbian couples
