a collection of notes about what i’d do if i made an aristotle and dante movie adaptation bc i want to make one so bad:
- Basically all of the semblance of my cinematic inspiration comes from Wes Anderson and shit so bear with me lolI
- just, in my mind for the car crash
- I would love to film it in a series of short scenes and shots without clear view of the face
- Most of the focus would be on the bird and the glare of light from the rain etc
- And the scenes would be so fast the audience would almost have trouble processing what was happening
- After the hit, the soundtrack would go silent and it would cut immediately to a wide above view shot of ari in the hospital bed
- When filming it, I would want to go for Ari’s feeling of seperation and isolation
- So all the shots would be like normal busts but just TOO wide
- Like there’s extra space separation him from everyone else
- Especially dante
- Since during that time they have the period of emotional and physical separation
- AND!!!It would be completely the opposite with dante
- The shots of him in the hospital would feel crowded and intimate
- Think the middle ground between a close-up and a bust shot
- So like part of the body is cut out bc its so close but not too close u can see the actor’s breath lmao
- I think Dante would feel overwhelmed and broken after being beat up by those boys
- So ari crowding over him in concern would be shown in the angles and closeness of the camera
- And the final chapter
- OH the final chapter
- Man oh man
- It would be quiet
- really really quiet
- Not so quiet that the audience wouldn’t be able the hear
- But I would make sure the actor’s would be subtle in their acting and gestures so everything would be soft and meaningful
- Especially when Dante finally gets upset
- It would disturb the awkward silence and shake the scene
- Propelling the narrative and music to a brighter strong tone
- And the audio would get louder until ari says his confession, in which it’ll reach a crescendo of emotions, to quiet realization
- in general: Outside shots would be unbearably wide to make ari feel small
- And the themes of isolation and crowdedness would probs pop up a lot in the cinematography and the lights would be very washed and there would be minimal makeup to make the characters seem more real and the music would be very soft, almost like the movie carol also lots of rock ballads and 80′s tunes
