Tarek Mawad and animator Friedrich van Schoor just spent six weeks embedded in nature to create Bioluminescent Forest. The 4-minute short film imagines what various plants, insects, spiderwebs, and mushrooms might look like if they possessed the ability to emit bioluminescent light, creating a strange wonderland of blinking and twinkling organisms.

Inktober Prompts

The one simple secret to becoming a better artist is to DRAW EVERY DAY. That’s why I totally back the idea behind the #Inktober challenge. And to maybe help some of you who don’t have any inspiration, I’ve got a bucket of prompts with me. I’ll be reblogging any challengers who bring their own spin to these prompts.

***Just remember to tag them #inktober and #afterhoursanimationschool.

The rules are simple: Draw/Paint your own take on each prompt in INK. Indelible, noticeable ink. That’s it. The challenge of course is really to do an ink drawing every day. Can you do all 31?

For example, if you’re a background artist, you might prefer to draw the inside of a clown’s trailer or the view from the height of a tightrope or even a circus-themed treehouse. If you prefer drawing animals, you’re allowed to dress a cat in an historical outfit if you like or draw Cerberus in the hell piece. Ambitious illustrators might like to turn that same hell prompt into an entire scene of Orpheus’ return to Hades. You can stick solely to what makes you comfortable, or use this as an excuse to draw characters, props and backgrounds you find to be more of a challenge. Try to keep things PG-13, so I can share them. Good luck!
