I came across an illustration in one of the saezuru drama CDs a few days ago that had a young Yashiro saying "i'm hungry" while the current day Yashiro says "who's that cutie? oh that's me!" but I can't find it anymore. Do you know which CD that was in?

Drama CD 3. What a cutie!!! He looks like Yashiro and Doumeki’s spoiled son. 😂

Broken - Chapter 5 teaser

Cuz I’m a cheap date these days and can’t stay awake into the wee hours anymore while I write. I wanted to fan the flames a little, since the brain is working again. Just a teaser.

Broken

Doumeki removed his glove and held Kamiya by the chin. The bruise on his cheek was familiar. He’d seen a bruise like this before, and had felt one just like it. The mark blossomed on Kamiya’s cheek with all the markings of a well-heeled designer shoe.

“The man who did this…” Doumeki said, stoically.

“I let my guard down,” Kamiya said, spitting blood out onto the floor, “I thought he was an okama."

"What?” Doumeki frowned.

Kamiya groaned, “He was… ah… pretty… you know… like a woman.”

Doumeki felt something stir in his stomach.

“I thought he was a woman in a suit…” Kamiya laughed, “Fuck… he moved so gracefully, and he offered to let me fuck him in trade for payment."

Doumeki’s hand tightened unconsciously on Kamiya’s chin.

"Ow! Aniki!” Kamiya groaned.

“Did he say his name?” Doumeki asked, but he was already pulling his glove back on his hand, and reaching for his overcoat.

“No,” Kamiya grunted, “But his bodyguard… he punched like a boxer.”

Doumeki felt his stomach twist into a knot as he moved to the door.

“Get that looked at, Kamiya-san,” Doumeki said flatly, “I’ll take care of this myself.”

                                         ———————————–

It was getting late, and the pouring rain had chased away their clientele for the night. Yashiro sighed. If it hadn’t been for Nanahara’s interruption he might have had some fun with the Yakuza thug who had stopped by to extort payment. He reminded him of Ryuuzaki in a way, and it made him feel nostalgic.

It seemed they had moved into Sanwakai territory. Normally, they were packed up and moved on before anyone had a chance to harass them, but apparently their neighborhood enforcer was keen to the emergence of a pop-up casino. Being a gambling family, the Sanwakai would have particular interest in a share of the profits, and Yashiro wasn’t about sharing.

“Lock it up,” Yashiro sighed to the bartender, “This spot’s dried up. Tell Nanahara to wake me up when he’s found a new location.”

“Yes, Shachou!” The bartender said dutifully and Yashiro began to walk across the room to his office.

The front door opened then, and Yashiro caught a glimpse of a tall man in a black coat and black gloves. He took a second look when the hair color and chiseled face caught his attention. He rubbed his bad eye. Many a young man had caught his eye lately. He almost smiled at how much this man looked like him.

Doumeki.

Yashiro shook his head. He had been too indulgent of his fantasies of late. He had put distance and years between himself and Doumeki, but still his mind wandered to him. Each time he saw a patron who blushed at his advances, he thought of Doumeki. Doumeki who quietly and patiently lured him out of the darkness and gently touched his body and swayed his feelings of intolerance into love.

The man at the door removed his coat and the rain spilled off the collar onto his expensive suit.

“Dummy…” Yashiro laughed to himself, “Didn’t even bring an umbrella–”

Yashiro was certain the air had been sucked from the room. He felt a sickness churning in his stomach he’d not felt in four years. He put his hand against the office door and focused on the door frame before turning his head to look again.

He was older than the young men who’d been catching his attention, but then again, he would be, wouldn’t he? It had been four years. In Yashiro’s imagination, Doumeki would remain that naive 25 year old baby chick who followed him dutifully and loved him completely. But this man, with his high-dollar suit and scarred forehead, couldn’t be him, could he? He couldn’t be the reason that Yashiro’s body felt the flames of passion that alluded him since that day at the hospital.

When soft eyes turned his way, he could see the long scar on his cheek, and the bittersweet memories rolled like a movie behind his failing right eye. Yashiro shrugged and moved toward him.

“Well, well…” Yashiro said sidling up to the bar and leaning on it, resting his chin in his hand and smiling,“If it isn’t Doumeki Chikara.”

Doumeki stood tall and looked down into Yashiro’s eyes. Yashiro bit at the inside of his cheek trying to maintain his composure.

Doumeki’s face softened and his low husky voice whispered, “Kashira.”

can’t wait for more

Hi, I was wondering if you could shed some light on something I don't get in ch32 of Saezuru. When Yashiro thinks on p15 "if I let him into my heart, I will have to abandon who I am. But this guy will never understand what that entails", what does it mean? What would it entail, and why does Yashiro think Doumeki would not understand? Do you have any idea what he means? I'm sending the same question to Domeyashiro because I think both your answers would be interesting, if you actually do answer!

I think what Yashiro is talking about is this perfectly crafted facade, this mask, that he wears in order to be the unfeeling, uncaring Yashiro, would have to be abandoned in order to love Doumeki.

Though translators could elaborate better on any nuances from that sentence in chapter 32, I think Yashiro touched on it a little in chapter 33 when he talks about Doumeki’s sister. I think Yashiro might be afraid of opening those doors and letting Doumeki see that tortured little boy inside.

Yashiro has been all alone, and the last time he let in someone he liked (Kageyama), he was left all alone again. Yashiro is in love with Doumeki and the very idea of opening his heart and surrendering to another person (and accepting all the consequences that go with that, ie: rejection) is still a painful wound that won’t stop bleeding.

Yashiro has been confused by Doumeki’s behavior for a long time, and only now is he beginning to understand.

The final scene between Yashiro and Doumeki in chapter 33 probably explains that sentence the best. (To reference @commandermardukas post: Yashiro’s life story is a loaded gun pointed at the person he loves. Kageyama couldn’t accept the truth and turned his back. Doumeki accepted it and surrendered.
