rosa diaz x daughter!oc - perfect
Rosa has a secret daughter. One day she walks into the precinct bc she needs the keys for their apartment and BOOM! the whole squad finds out - request <3 oc created by her <3
Everyone knew Rosa Diaz was a secretive person. I mean now she was less secretive than she used to be but there was still so much the squad didn't know about her. They knew things she liked, they knew things she didn't like, they know little bits about what she does in her free time but they know nothing about her home life. There were multiple reasons she didn't want people to know where she lived but the main one was because she had a daughter.
Rosa wasn't ashamed of her daughter. She wasn't ashamed in the slightest. She loved her more than anything and because she loved her more than anything, it was just for her protection. Rosa was very protective of her. She definitely wasn't a crazy overprotective strict mom but it eased her anxiety knowing she was safe. Lupe Diaz was her everything.
The squad had no idea about this part of her life. Rosa just never knew how to bring it up. She had spent years being so secretive and had everyone know so little about her and when they did find things out it was only small things. Telling people that have known her for a very long time that she got pregnant when she was 19 and now has a secret 16-year-old daughter she thought probably wouldn't go down so well. So Rosa put it off.
"I'm leaving. I left my keys at work so I'm taking yours and don't burn the apartment down if you're home to make yourself dinner" Rosa had said that morning before she left for work.
"Don't worry, I won't." Lupe smiled as she brushed her hair in the mirror. "Do you know where I put my glasses?"
"Kitchen counter. Come to the precinct if you need the keys. Love you"
"Thank you! Love you too" She called after her mother as the door closed.
It wasn't like Lupe had never been to the precinct. She had a few times but she had never been there long enough to meet anyone. Not that she really cared. Her mother's work was her mother's work and if Rosa didn't want her involved in that, that was fine. She was aware no one knew about her. To be honest, Lupe found it amusing.
Lupe: I'm in the precinct
Rosa: You know where I am
Rosa's anxiety rose a little as she looked at the squad all gathered around Jake and Amy's desks talking about something she knew she wasn't interested in. She had been waiting for a situation like this to happen so she didn't actually have to say the words "I have a daughter" because she thought that maybe Lupe being there would be less shocking and more believable. Rosa just didn't realise she'd be this nervous when it finally happens. Maybe they just wouldn't notice her and carry on with their conversation which Captain Holt was even a part of or they would see her and question why a child chose to speak to Rosa of all people.
It had been a very quiet day in the building so everyone looked up when the elevator doors opened revealing a girl not much smaller than Rosa with brown hair, brown eyes that were glued to her phone, earphones in her ears and a tiny, barely noticeable smile resting o her lips. They all watched as she made her way towards Rosa like she'd been there before. She didn't even lookup. The teenager came to a stop in front of the desk and didn't say anything. Rosa rolled her eyes, looking away from her computer screen before pulling the earphones from the girl's ears.
"Hey! That was a really good song" Lupe pouted making her mother roll her eyes for a second time.
"Pause it," Rosa said blankly, not failing to notice the squad's eyes on them from across the room. "What you smiling about?"
"I'm not smiling--" The 16-year-old quickly denied, shaking her head.
"Katie" Was all Rosa said but it instantly made Lupe's cheeks turn red ever so slightly making Rosa laugh a little. There wasn't anything she didn't tell her mom... there were times where she regretted telling her things. The whole Katie thing was a great example. The older woman went to say something else but was cut off when Amy approached with a smile on her face.
"Hey, Rosa" She greeted only to be met by a blank stare. "Uh, so, how are you?" Amy asked kind of awkwardly as Lupe suppressed how much she wanted to laugh. She had to guess this woman was Amy just by the way she was dressed. She looked past her and towards the group of people staring at them. Lupe knew exactly who was who just by one glance. She nodded her head with a small smile when they noticed her looking their way.
"What do you want?" Rosa questioned.
"Nothing. I just wanted to see if you needed help" She said.
"Uh-" Amy didn't know how to phrase it. She knew that the girl who stood beside her wasn't here to report a crime because it was clear from the start she was here for Rosa. That was what was confusing. A child was here to talk to Rosa. Amy quickly glanced at Lupe making it clear to the both of them she was trying to find a way to ask about her.
"I'm Lupe" She spoke up with a small smile. "I'm guessing you're Amy"
To say Amy looked surprised was an understatement. To say each member of the squad also showed surprise would be an understatement... except Captain Holt of course. His face remained the same. He stayed stood at the back of the group as they moved closer to Rosa desk out of curiosity. "How do you know that?"
"Mo-- Rosa told me" Lupe corrected herself, quickly glancing at her mother who was sat back in her chair with zero emotion on her face. Rosa's nerves had calmed seeing Lupe speak to them. They still had no idea though.
"She talks about us?" Charles beamed, as the group came to a stop.
"Yeah" She revealed as she turned to Rosa only to see her roll her eyes. "Can I have my keys, please?"
"How do you know Rosa?" Jake asked the one question they had all been thinking as Rosa passed her daughter the keys.
"Are you her niece or something?" Terry wondered.
"Sure," Lupe says, putting one of her earphones back in. Rosa sighed as the squad watched the 16-year-old with a raised eyebrow as she smiled down at her phone.
"What is 'sure' supposed to mean?" Amy questioned, looking to Rosa. How was she supposed to answer this? She either lied and said that Lupe was her niece or she told the truth.
"Does it matter?" Rosa shot back.
"N-no" Santiago stuttered slightly, stepping back out of fear from the glare she was getting.
"What you doing?" Rosa asked after her daughter as she slowly began to walk towards the bullpen gate.
"Katie and Alexa are coming over." She revealed looking up again. Seeing her mother chuckle and raise an eyebrow, she rolled her eyes. "Don't even. Alexa's there too. I should really stop telling you things"
"I wasn't going to say anything" The older Diaz shrugged, knowing full well she was going to say something about how her daughter was hanging out with the girl she had liked since middle school. "Just don't burn down the apartment"
"I left my hair straighteners on once and forgot about my brownies once. You are never gonna let me live it down."
"You used to play with matches" Rosa reasoned.
"You gave me the matches to play with because I was crying about dropping my cheerios." Lupe shot back with a chuckle."4 years of parenting, you would think you would know not to give your child matches"
"I'm so confused" Charles comments. "You gave her matches!" Terry exclaimed as Lupe laughed quietly.
"'your child matches'" Amy repeated Lupe's words slowly as a look of realisation washed over her face. She studied the teenager's face carefully. She could see Rosa. "Oh my God"
Lupe's eyes widened as she looked over at her mother. She didn't know if she was in trouble or not. She never got into trouble so thinking about it did make her scared since she knows the effect her mom has on other people. Rosa was a scary person. When she looked at her mother's face though, it was the same. She didn't look angry. A very small, almost unnoticeable smile made its way onto her lips making Lupe raise an eyebrow.
"Oh my God!" Jake realised second immediately looking to Rosa.
"What?" Charles questioned in confusion looking between everyone who had looks of realisation as they looked to their ravenette friend.
"Lupe is the daughter of Detective Diaz" Holt answered.
"What!" Charles screeched with excitement as he turned to his friend.
"Got pregnant when I was 19 and got stuck with her" Rosa chuckled nodding towards her daughter.
"You love me really" Lupe smiled.
"Well..." She says teasingly with a tiny smile.
"It is like you want me to lock you out" The 16-year-old deadpanned.
"You do that and I play heavy metal on full blast outside your door at 3 am"
"If my girls locked me out on purpose, they'd be grounded," Terry added. "Playing heavy metal doesn't seem like much of a punishment"
"But it's not punishment. She's a good kid. It's called being annoying" Rosa shrugged. When Lupe was growing up, they would often get mistaken for sisters. Not just because Rosa was young but because of the way they acted around each other. Rosa was and will forever be her true best friend. No one could replace her.
"We have a 4-year ongoing battle about who can be the most annoying at the most inconvenient time" Lupe explained, not looking up from her phone as she answered Katie's messages with a small blush on her cheeks.
"I'm winning" Rosa claimed, crossing her arms across her chest and leaning back coolly.
"You are so not winning." Lupe was quick to deny as she immediately looked up.
"Get out of here" The older Diaz rolled her eyes making her daughter smirk.
"Accept defeat" She smiled widely making Rosa narrow her eyes at her. "Fine. I'm going, I'm going"
"Have fun with your girlfriend"
"Mom, please. You really need to stop that or I will lock you out" Lupe groaned, rolling her eyes but unable to keep the small smile off her face.
After a year of begging, Rosa finally agreed to another game night at her place. The first game night was there after she came out. Luckily for her, Lupe was staying at her friend's house that night. Rosa moved all the photos she had of her daughter and anything around the apartment that could be linked to a teenage girl before anyone on the squad could see it. This time when she attempted to open her door, she didn't have to worry about that and it felt good. By attempted, I mean that she tried but failed as Lupe had locked her out. "Lupe Celeste Diaz! Open the door" Rosa shouted from the outside as the squad stood a few feet behind her holding boxes of pizza, bottles of beer and board games.
"You should've thought about that when you called Katie my girlfriend!" Lupe shouted back from her spot on the sofa, watching the Nancy Meyers Parent Trap. She chuckled to herself with a smile of amusement. She wasn't bothered at all by what her mother had said, she was just being annoying at an inconvenient time. Her smile dropped when the door opened and Rosa walked in with the squad following quickly after.
"You forgot I have my keys," Rosa said with a small smirk as she held up her keys. "We're having game night here"
"Cool," The teenager smiled happily as board games and pizza were placed on the coffee table in front of her.
"We'd like to get to know you more... if that's okay" Amy started as they all sat down around the table as Charles say up the monopoly. "That's fine" Lupe nodded.
Rosa smiled as she sat down, watching her chosen family ask her daughter questions and making her laugh. She did wish she told them sooner but this was perfect.
