oh I absolutely am making it up as I go, the only groundwork i have laid down is how it started, some key moments and how it ends. So I guess in this case, yes I do know how it'll end XD
In the event Scarfy *is* successfully purified, I like to imagine he's still a little injured from all the major internal damage, and he and Newtwo get to spend some quality bonding time in Oak's infirmary lol

It’s so odd to me that people keep getting hung up on Ash not being there when he hasn’t been relevant to the story for several years now.
he was always a support character who showed up when I needed the straight man to mewtwo shenanigans, when more characters appeared for different shenanigans I basically needed Ash a lot less
Wait...wait okay I know that the whole idea of him dying is largely in part to throw people off and teach them they can't always expect a happy ending, but looking at it logically.
With those injuries, if the synergy stone's power is the only thing keeping him alive, even if they purify it, losing it's current power could make his life unsustainable. If they remove it, he dies, if they purify it, he could also die, but he can't heal properly unless it's removed, but could they even keep him alive long enough to fix it, even with emergency surgery?
The longer I think about it, the more I believe that he's not getting out of this one
a successful purification would also help heal him. key word being "successful"
