love is growth. where would he be without her? somewhere, surely, where his heart did not race or swell or sing but where his eyes were bleary and cold and where his smile belonged to no one. he thought often of this; he asked he what she thought, too, and she would always chuckle and breathe out that he shouldn’t worry about such things. here with her, though, his fingertips could sprout music and his tongue could shine onto the world with golden impurities that no one minded. keep me safe, he would ask of her. and she would remind him that they would best live together in that grayed unknown. they would live best together, unpredictably.
