Ginger” - A Predynastic Egyptian

The naturally preserved body of an adult man was found in a cemetery at Gebelein, Egypt, and dated to the Late Predynastic period, around 3400 BC, or earlier.

Ginger died more than five thousand years ago, yet his golden hair, which gave him his nick-name, and even his toe- and finger-nails were perfectly preserved. Before mummification was developed to preserve human remains bodies were placed in shallow graves, in direct contact with the sand. The bodies from these early burials frequently did not decay, because the hot dry sand absorbed the water that constitutes 75%  of the human weight. Without moisture bacteria cannot breed and cause decay, and the body is preserved. There are many of these burials from the early Egyptian periods where the  body is still in excellent condition.

The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. It is not meant to be, and is not officially recognized as any type of disrespect when so displayed for the right reasons.

On Monday, @kate-encore-k was requesting a “I Voted” sticker be sent to her in France. Our precinct uses electronic voting machines and before you vote, they give you a piece of thermal paper with an access code. And while @maturestyle has gently chided me in the past about whether I’m a hoarder, I have gotten in the habit of putting my sticker on the back of the code and keeping them. So here’s a whole slew of them.

The above are from the primary and general elections in 2015 and 2016. Each resulted in the election of a governmental chief executive who is an angry buffoon. My state has now lived through almost 12 months of pointless disassembly of accomplishments by our previous two term governor. Get ready, we’re all in for more of the same.

In a somewhat embarrassed way, I confess myself an ostrich. We watched an aggregate of maybe 15 minutes of returns over the course of last night. I went to bed at 10:30. And this morning was the first time in a very long time I did not listen to NPR while getting ready for work. I don’t want anything explained or analyzed at the moment.

One more thought: in 18 days, I’m going to be 48. I’ve already lived through at least one era of fake glitz on Pennsylvania Avenue already. Many things we hold dear have and will be cheapened. Perhaps irreparably. I have nothing of solace to offer you in the face of that.

Thank you for putting my current feelings into words. My grief is deep, my mind beyond worry! I'm 64 and I don't think I can hold my nose for 4 years.
