“Why does everything keep getting worse?” nobody does shit in-house anymore, that’s why.

I keep thinking this, that giant companies who are serious about long-term quality, and their own company’s long-term capability and know-how, really have to stay vertically integrated. That the hollowing-out and balance-sheet-ification just seems… Incredibly dangerous in the long term. And yeah the short-term financial incentives make you do it.

But the things that make your company great, if it truly is great, are not to be found as standalone minutiae on a balance sheet; they’re really hard to quantify!

It’s not even just companies. Every municipality does major projects on a lowest-bidder basis, even on projects that are small parts of a long term endeavour, like light rail systems, so we get poorly-built sections taped together by companies that are learning this system for the first time, each time.

The global cultural exchange brought on by the internet is beautiful because for the first time in history it is relatively normal for ohioan teenagers to develop extremely unhealthy romantic yearnings for lithe wuxia men trapped inside digital casinos

the impulse to hide what I'm doing at my computer still sits so deep even tho I'm literally never looking at anything objectionable , the door will open and I'll hurry to close the page like oh fuck no one can know I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for the Balkans

My copy of @drchucktingle's book Camp Damascus has arrived! (The publishers were kind enough to send me an advanced copy when I mentioned that I had ordered a copy but time was not kind to me as it was Finish Good Omens and Wrap Things Up Before the Strike world, and I had no personal reading time. So I'm really looking forward to settling down to read it.)

let it be known that @neil-gaiman has been a true buckaroo from DAY ONE. always accepted my unique way and understood the sincerity of my trot and my art. thank you neil i appreciate you so much bud. i am humbled and honored by your support through the years. a buckaroo legend

It wouldn't help anything and hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue and etc etc but on some level I do wish people would say what they actually mean, instead of this whole 'we're totally trans-inclusive! We welcome both women and people we clearly consider to be women-but-going-through-a-phase!' runaround.

there’s a ton of shit you can get in life if you’re willing to submit yourself to the mortifying horror of asking for it.

me: can i take this exam…a different time? prof: sure me, crying on the inside from the effort of asking: thanks!

tumblr in 2020:

  • posts on your dashboard are ranked by how much the ceo personally likes them
  • a widget on everyone’s blogs that publically displays their top five search terms
  • images disabled altogether
  • they ban you if you have a custom theme
  • app crashes at a speed imperceptible to the human eye
  • you can buy little outfits for the “t” logo with real money
