detective conan is great because:

-its main character is a freak. he's a 16 year old sherlock holmes obsessed detective who got shrunk to the size of a six year old and has to pretend to be a child to hide from an organized crime group. next to nobody in the show knows his identity so he's this weird tiny guy with an encyclopedic memory and an ASTOUNDING amount of knowledge on everything murder related (he's also really good at math and has weirdly good motor control for a six year old). he keeps solving murders as a tiny freak and that alone is just so absurd. also he has 3 actual 6 year old friends who are freaks in their own ways and solve murders with him (they aren't always in the episodes,, so they are a treat :D)

-it has fucking awesome writing

-and like shit tons of amazing characters. it has over a thousand episodes, but has managed to hit it out of the park with most major characters and a crap ton of side characters

-the first 3 seasons that are especially dark, and generally depict very difficult real world issues like child death, police corruption, bullying, and suicide in a rather realistic and detailed way. the rest of the show is nearly as dark, too. murder is the primary theme and things like workplace abuse, blackmail, and drug trafficking are frequently present

-the story utilizes the dark themes to support its central message; that people are generally good and that love is so important! (also that critical thinking and questioning everything is good too)

-its music FUCKS. it just fucks and keeps on fucking. it has like 28328094 songs I absolutely adore and have consistently listened to since i was 10 without getting sick of them.

-it balances depressing and comedic material in a way that provides a lot of texture to the overall feel of the show

-it has representation of dark skinned japanese people

-it has really varied character designs with a ton of different body types and facial structures (background characters included)

-i love all of the characters i could write an essay for all. this is the only series i know that i could have over 10 blorbos (i'm expecting the number will be past the 20s as i catch up)

-the female characters are so freaking good. they have a tendency to be fan favorites because they are just so well executed. (haibara got a movie recently! :>)

-it's animated by TMS and consistently looks pretty freaking great. really expressive, well referenced animation!

-it has cool old guys‼️

-and so much more,, but i can't write over a million words for one tumblr post.. (sad)

#sorry i don’t like the spy x family anime that much. not because it’s bad but because the translation just doesn’t hold up to the manga#also it’s a lot more soppy? idk. it’s a good anime but it requires a different headspace than the manga takes up#i probably just need to watch it in a different mood

please do not mistake a small group of people on the internet doing something stupid, or something that makes you mad trending with 100-1000 tweets, for an urgent and widespread social issue. it’ll make you mean, complacent, and easy to manipulate before you realize it

also… if you see someone complaining about or arguing against an absurd position, that doesn’t always mean that the thing they’re complaining about exists or is common. lots of people use social media to win the arguments they have with themselves in the shower
