Hello, I’m Ham

Extremely dangerous how "grooming" in the context of child sexual abuse went from being a very specific pattern of isolation and trust-building with the aim of abusing someone to "telling children anything that contradicts their parents' ultra-conservative worldview is grooming" to "selling rainbow flags in a store is grooming" to "literally anyone I don't like is a groomer".

These days the word seems to most often be used by people who don't care about what it actually means and just want an easy "this person is irredeemably evil, kill them now" button.

It’s weird to think this comic predates the rise of Internet spam, though otherwise it reads like it could’ve been drawn yesterday.

I've been thinking about the phrase "verbing weirds language" for nearly 30 years

hobbes in the last panel deconstructing twitter decades before it’s invention

Casually adding "Well, I'm phasing" to my lexicon.

sorry, it's a GOOD thing if cishet people use non-conforming pronouns or dress in non-conforming ways or whatever else. for one, that person may not be cishet. but more importantly, living in a society where more people feel comfortable exploring their relationship to gender and sexuality is an undoubtedly GOOD thing

Let's also not forget the intersex kids who are forced into surgeries and hormones with no ability to consent.

Trans and intersex bodily autonomy NOW.

This. There are many intersex children who go thru puberty early, and most of the time intervention is chosen for us, not by us. Cis intersex children deserve autonomy too.

I’ve been seeing some WASP NEGATIVITY lately so just a reminder that insects are important and interesting whether you find them “cute” or not. Which btw wasps are cute actually but anyways… (also sorry for the US-centrism)

Such a sleek looking thing! Hoverflies are another insect I could mistake for a plastic toy if I didn't know any better-
