Well. This is awkward. Between mobile, Firefox and Chrome, it won’t let me reblog that post as to respond to it. Either my technology is all misbehaving at once, it’s all cursed, or.. something. Did I get blocked? I don’t know. I’m confused and that’s bothering me!
But I still feel the need to answer– I don’t want to appear as if I’m just going to leave that be, I don’t really want to be a jerk.
So here’s my answer to that reblog.
To start, I’m glad you’re willing to be civil, I was kind of concerned that this could get ugly quickly. So.. thank you. I’m also glad that you’re willing to move on from the past, it’s so much easier than you being stubborn or something like that.
But… I do have a few places to dissent / points of advice to offer on this topic. Whether or not you wish to discuss these points is up to debate, but I do want to put them out there now that you’ve responded to me.
1a. While it’s technically not too awful to age a character up to adulthood and have pornography drawn of them at that age… it still brings a few things into question, I feel. It still stands that you considered this character of yours and said to yourself, “I’m going to commission someone to draw this character as older than they are, that way it won’t be bad if they’re in a sexual situation”. Lee’s still actively depicted most frequently as a child, which makes (implied or otherwise) NSFW of him potentially very uncomfortable for viewers. It may be best to take that into account with the material you may create, commission and/or share.
1b. I have my countless own contentions about canon x OC as a whole, but I’ll spare you that since I’m sure you’re already aware of my vicious and scathing ire. But I would also advise caution, because Callie is canonically stated to be “at least 17” in context of the first Splatoon game (cited here, I’m sure you can find the raw material if you go digging), which is a dangerous age range for a character to be when you so strongly ship Lee with her. Small age gaps aren’t exactly dangerous when all individuals are of age or older, but.. be careful.
2. There’s also the reality that there is a lot of extremely morally questionable fanart involving your character(s) out and about. While one can’t necessarily control what others make of your characters – I would be careful to express the notion that you don’t condone this kind of material. Otherwise, it may end up associated with you simply because it includes your characters.
Ultimately, please be mindful. I have no real malicious intent in all this: I’m simply very concerned and a little confused, and would simply like to know the truth. Either way, I’m glad you’re doing your best to be a better person than you were before; the past can be very hard to move on from.
Ive read what you have to say and here’s my bebuddle.
Lee is a kid… for one part of the story. There is a whole nother part to it as a whole where he is a full grown adult who has two children. To that though; i reasonably should keep any nsfw depictions of him in any state, even as an adult to myself because you’re right. I want my story to be accessible to everyone and that can turn people away.
Second, the shipping with callie is largely fluff. I dont have them actively dating in my storyline until theyre adults in college. For now though Callie is a good friend and mentor to Lee, someone he looks up to and admires more than anything else in the world.
They’re also friends who enjoy each other’s company and just generally hang out together, I swear, that’s all I do with them, i swear
As for the nsfw art, youre absolutely right, i should keep that on the downlow; if not discourage it or at least say if anyone wants to do that they should privately share it with me first because given how minimally known my characters are right now, people cam get the wrong idea. While i dont agree with your methods to try to ruin me, it did open my eyes of what I should be doing with my own conduct. Again, I apologize for how I handled our initial disagreement, as an adult I shouldnt be that childish and stupid. I won't ask you to see my differently than you do but I promise I don't want to do anything like I used to do ever again.
