Another First

Sitting in his room, staring at the open Hero Analysis book that lay over his crossed legs, Midoriya Izuku wanted to curl up into a ball and never leave the comfort of his room. Doing so would greatly affect his chances of becoming a heroic symbol of hope and becoming a NEET would put a lot of strain on his already over-stressed mother. It’s just…the object of his frustration and copious amounts of affection was carefully drawn and described on the two pages in front of him. It had taken a lot not to doodle little hearts like a schoolgirl on either page when he finally starting dating the other boy just three weeks ago.

The real problem that Izuku faced now was that his boyfriend, Tokoyami Fumikage, was part bird. Not that Izuku was disliked birds! Or Tokoyami! He was honestly head-over-heels for the guy, but that quirk of his made things a bit…complicated. Tokoyami was handsome, there was no denying that. Izuku hadn’t really ever thought that birds could be handsome but Tokoyami was mostly human and his eyes were so piercing and intense and his voice did things to Izuku’s spine and his breathing and he should really stop thinking about it because otherwise, he’ll get too distracted. He needed to focus.

See the real problem with Izuku dating a bird hybrid was that his boyfriend did not have lips. He had hands that felt nice to hold, arms long enough to hold him in, a spot on his chest that was perfect for resting on. But no lips. And no lips meant no kissing. At least not until Izuku figured out how to kiss him.

He knew that Tokoyami had a tongue and thinking about made him blush a little but it shouldn’t because it’s not like that tongue had been used on him yet. Ah, that sounded dirty! He just meant, well it probably felt good? Some of their classmates had kissed before with…with tongue…and they made it sound appealing. And Tokoyami’s tongue was kind of long. Oh, god he needed to stop.

Izuku took a deep breath, “It’s fine. I’m fine. I just need to think of a way to kiss my boyfriend. My boyfriend who has a beak. A hard beak. Ugh!”

Next, to his knee, his phone lit up with a new text. Perfect timing. He could take a break from—it was from Tokoyami. Dammit. A good dammit, though. He loved texting his boyfriend and talking to his boyfriend and just being his boyfriend’s boyfriend, you know?

There is sunlight bleeding through the spaces between the panels of my blinds. Normally that would upset me, but now this gentle warmth does nothing but remind me of you. Good morning love, though I imagine you have been up for quite a while already.

Oh that, well that went a lot better than Izuku had thought it would. Sure he was nowhere close to understanding exactly how to kiss his Tokoyami, the other boy seemed to want to kiss him just as much. And that felt amazing. Granted, every little first that the two shared made Izuku’s heart and face warm, but this was a big step. He was…he was really excited.

Izuku flopped backwards, notebook slipping off his legs and landing next to them on his bed. The soft smile that was always on his face when talking with became a giddy grin. He was really lucky his boyfriend was so great.

His palms were sweaty and his heart was beating pretty fast but he was here. Here in Tokoyami’s room—not for the first time, but it would be the first time where the other boy’s parents were out for the day and the first time that they would actually, finally, kiss.

Izuku just knew he was blushing like mad, his face was on fire. Tokoyami looked pretty calm in comparison, sitting with his back against the wall and facing Izuku. But his fingers twitched ever so slightly on the comforter and that made Izuku relax a bit, knowing that his Fumikage was nervous too.

“Izuku is there, is there a particular way in which you would like to begin? I admit I have not kissed anyone before.”

“N-neither have I! We’re each other’s firsts after all! Um, but I don’t…you have a beak,” he finished awkwardly.

“I do. In that case, if you would be more comfortable following my lead…?”

Izuku nodded, wiping his palms on his pants as surreptitiously as he could and leaning a bit closer to his boyfriend. The bird hybrid looked at him and swallowed, before reaching his hands out to loosely grab Izuku’s shoulders. He leaned forward as well, tilting his head and opening his beak. Izuku blinked. Tokoyami blinked. Neither of them moved.

“This…will not work.”

Oh, oh no. But he wanted to kiss Tokoyami. And Tokoyami wanted to kiss him. It wasn’t fair!

“Will you sit in my lap, Izuku?”

Not fair at all, he just…? Lap? Sit in Fumi’s lap? Izuku would? Apparently, he had asked those (rather redundant) questions out loud because his boyfriend gave a little chuckled and nodded. Ah, the blush was back on his face now. Still, embarrassed as he was, he carefully settled himself in Fumikage’s lap and wrapped his arms around the other boy. He waited, a little nervously, for further direction.

“This should be a bit better, but I cannot promise it will be entirely enjoyable. Though my passion for you is great, I am not experienced with these matters.” Izuku’s heart melted a little bit at those words, Fumi always made sure he felt comfortable and happy with whatever they did. His nervousness hadn’t stemmed from worry over the kissing itself, but over how pleasant an experience it would be for Izuku.

And that thought alone proved to Izuku that this experience would be a great one no matter what. He was here with Fumikage after all. A hand was placed on his hip, the other resting low on his back, and now Izuku was being guided ever so slowly forward and down. Down towards the Tokoyami’s slightly open beak. He had Izuku pause just in front of him and they just breathed the same air for a moment which was kind of…erotic?

Then the hand the on his back was brought up to his face. Tokoyami nudged Izuku’s lips with the tip of his beak, which felt smooth and a little cold, cold enough that Izuku’s mouth opened to release a little gasp. His boyfriend then angled his beak so that it was just slightly out of line with his mouth and oh, that tongue was long.

Long enough to slip into Izuku’s mouth to feel along the roof of his mouth. It almost tickled, but Izuku felt less like he wanted to squirm away from the sensation and more like he wanted to prolong it. He did his best to adjust the position of his own head so that he could find the optimum angle to—there! Now he could intertwine their tongues and that, that felt amazing.

It was odd, yes, and Tokoyami’s neck probably hurt like this but it felt so good to be so close to his boyfriend like this. To have them connected, holding onto each other so carefully and yet with desperation. When it became too much, Izuku pulled back slightly to breathe and saw how bright Tokoyami’s eyes were. As if they were lit with some kind of inner fire.

Air was immediately less important and the curly-haired boy dove back in for more. Tokoyami wasn’t quite prepared for the speed and force behind Izuku’s movements, however, and his hands fell away from Izuku’s body while his beak closed without a second thought. The tip of it caught on Izuku’s bottom lip and drew out a moan that surprised both boys. They were struck silent for a minute before Tokoyami spoke up.

“You…enjoyed that?”

“Y-yeah. The kiss and um…”

“I didn’t mean to—it was not my intention to, ah, clip you like that. This thing is more trouble than I anticipated.”

“I really…really didn’t mind. At all, actually. It was. I’m already a little. AH!”

Izuku couldn’t take it anymore and he covered his beet-red face with his hands. Tokoyami just stared at his strange, wonderful little boyfriend before he snagged a handful of those soft locks and pulled him down to rest against his chest. After all, he might not be capable of blushing himself, but it was better not to reveal all the emotions that were no doubt swirling in his eyes. Not just yet.

In case you doubted how much Phil loves Dan...

So I’ve seen a lot of people talking about Phil’s coming out video and how it’s so casual and low-key, and how it’s obvious that he was just waiting until Dan came out to post it, but idk if people really understand what a big deal it is that Phil JUST posted it now, in 2019. Like ok, I’m 25 and a YouTube grandma, and I can go ahead and attest that in the early days of YouTube, coming out videos really weren’t a thing. YouTubers started out being primarily creative types. Even vloggers didn’t share a lot of genuinely personal info. There was kind of an open understanding that some people were Not Straight, but it wasn’t really a big deal until Troye Sivan made his coming out video in 2013. That WAS a big deal, because a lot of Troye’s fans were girls who had crushes on him, and he had been really closeted and pretty vocal about liking women right up until he posted the video. So post-2013 was really when the curtain fell and a lot of YouTubers became much more open about their personal lives. That was also when a lot of YouTubers felt like they had to make public “coming out” videos. There were a few (Tyler Oakley for example) who had been vocal enough about their sexuality from the beginning and never really made one specific “coming out” video, but most LGBTQ+ YouTubers did drop some sort of “sexuality announcement” in the early to mid 2010s. 

So with that being said, I don’t know how many people actually know this, but Phil was…kind of already out when he first started his channel. Like he said in his new video, he came out to his friends and family while he was at uni, which was when he started his channel, and he never really tried to hide his sexuality in those older videos (although most of those old videos are private now). Like a lot of YouTubers’ older content, Phil never really had one video where he was like “Hi, in this video, I’m going to explicitly tell you that I’m gay!”, but the friends he hung out with used to talk about dating, and it was always assumed that Phil was dating guys. I believe there’s also some old, old receipts of an ex-boyfriend talking about dating Phil. All of this was pre-Dan. (This also makes Dan sliding into Phil’s DMs make a lot more sense. He wasn’t taking a totally random long shot. Everyone who watched Phil kind of already knew that Phil liked guys.)

The original Phan shippers didn’t come from nowhere. OG AmazingPhil fans knew he was into guys, and Phil had this one guy who came to visit him in 2009, and then they moved in together, so everyone just kind of assumed they were dating and went on from there. It wasn’t until Dan’s semi-public “I’M NOT GAY” breakdown in 2012 that we all went, “Oh, ok. Whatever’s going on here is…private, and we really shouldn’t talk about it publicly.” I think there’s an obvious reason that Phil didn’t make a “coming out” video with all the other old-school LGBTQ+ YouTubers once that became expected. He knew that coming out publicly would automatically put the spotlight on Dan, and he wasn’t willing to do that. 

All of this to say, Phil didn’t wait to come out of the closet until 2019 because he was nervous, or didn’t want people to know. Phil started his YouTube channel already out of the closet. Phil WENT BACK INTO THE CLOSET for Dan. To make sure Dan was safe and protected and comfortable, Phil didn’t talk publicly about his sexuality for TEN YEARS. Whatever they are to each other now, whether platonic or romantic, that’s genuine love. When Dan says they’re soulmates, he’s not exaggerating.

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place.
