Tama is boss

THE TRAINS HAVE CARTOON TAMAS ON THEM

Sad update everyone, Tama recently passed away… An estimated 3,000 people, including railway officials, attended Tama the cat’s funeral on Sunday, days after she died of heart failure aged 16. [x]

For those who haven’t read articles about it, the local shrine elevated her to a god. She’s now the Eternal Stationmaster and patron god of the station.

Beautiful.

Now I’m crying thanks

and a new cat was hired right?

yep! her name is Nitama (essentially ”second tama” or “tama II”) and she served under Tama as an apprentice before being appointed her deputy

she works very hard

I’m crying at 11pm over train cats

Nitama, already now a mature cat (born 2010), has a protege named Yontama (fourth Tama, b. 2016).  There is no information available for either the physical befellment or tragic self-disgrace which has removed Santama from contention.

^Nitama majestic, and below with Yontama

Yontama.

a legacy

okay but actually what happened to santama (or sun-tama-tama, which is her name because it’s a pun on santama) was that she was basically sent to train for the position in okayama and they liked her so much they refused to send her back

“Sun-tama-tama” (a pun off of “Santama”, lit. “third Tama”) was a calico cat sent for training in Okayama. Sun-tama-tama was considered as a candidate for Tama’s successor, but the Okayama Public Relations representative who had been caring for Sun-tama-tama refused to give the cat up writing, “I will not let go of this child, she will stay in Okayama.” [25]
As of September 2018, Sun-tama-tama is working as the stationmaster in Naka-ku, Okayama and appears occasionally on Tama’s Twitter account.

Every time I see this post there’s new info and it gets better

You are only allowed to scroll pass this after you pay tribute to the great Tama Station masters.

The shrine of Tama Daimyōjin (Great gracious deity Tama), next to the Kishi station where she worked.

Nitama presenting her yearly offerings to Tama Daimyōjin on the anniversary of Tama’s Death, June 23 (The offerings are presented by the company president, as Nitama is a cat and thus can’t hold the offerings herself) (Not pictured, but also present, Yontama)

you cannot pass without reblogging guys. i’m sorry, i don’t make the rules.

You can’t not reblog a goddess. It’s just what’s so. :)

So, fun fact- the manga Noragami has an arc where the main character, Yato (a minor kami/God that is down on his luck but trying to make it big time) goes to a council/conference for all the Gods in Japan.

And they are announcing the winner of the “up and coming god” award, and of course, Yato thinks it’s him.

But no-

ITS TAMA!

Always reblogging this.

BEST THING ON TUMBLR EVER.

Shintoism is such a neat belief structure to me - I was raised Catholic and there’s this constant sense that it’s functionally a solved system; the dogma is established and except for a new saint now and then it’s done growing.

The idea that you can elevate a new god is really nice, there’s something vital and living within that concept; that belief can and will grow with the world around it.

Genuinely bless any religion in which “we promoted this very nice cat to the status of god” is a thing that not only can theoretically happen, but isn’t even controversial or weird when it does

I saw the Barbie movie over the weekend:

And I know 10,000,000 other people said it already, but I love Allan and Weird Barbie as gender nonconforming representation. Especially after I noticed that they are the only ones who don't get to enjoy the benefits of either system (the matriarchy in the beginning when Barbies ruled, and then the Patriarchy in the middle of the movie when Ken's ruled.

A little touch I thought was cool was that Allan wasn't in the Ken song. I know that sounds obvious, because his name isn't Ken, it's Allan, but I kept conflating Ken with masculinity, like the way all of the dolls who presented male were called Ken's and almost all of the dolls who presented female (besides Midge and Skipper, but we don't talk about Midge) were called Barbie. So it was interesting to me to see that Allan doesn't even get to participate in that ritual of masculinity.

Anyway, the Barbie movie is amazing and I idolize Allan now

I just saw Barbie again with my mom and sister and noticed something:

A little snippet, a soft whisper of What Was I Made For? plays when Barbie is on the bus bench with the old lady telling her she’s beautiful; I could hear the piano and Billie’s soft humming melody there, and then I think it happens again when Gloria is about to speak her monologue, right before when she tells Barbie she’s so beautiful.

The song plays when women are helping other women.

I am unwell.

I'm dying bc the Barbie movie is all about how Ken is "just Ken" and an accessory to Barbie and Barbie later gives him a pep talk about how he needs to find value in himself and discover that he's Kenough.... but on Mattel's page for the Barbie movie, all the Ken dolls are half as expensive as the Barbie dolls. And the movie exclusive Barbie dolls are completely sold out whereas all the movie exclusive Ken dolls are still in stock 💀💀💀

everyone's talking about the America Ferrera monologue and yes it was cool and all (she ate that delivery and she deserves her flowers!) but really the most powerful part of the film is the Ruth x Barbie scene in the final act with that Billie Eilish song in the background. THAT was what moved me. and my friends. and the sweet old lady behind me who was watching with her husband (overheard her say it was the first time in 3 years they went to the cinema!). and the mom of two boys and one girl beside us who kept apologizing to me because one of her sons almost blinded me with his phone's flashlight just before the movie started. and the full row of high school girls below us who were trying so hard to hide their sniffling from each other.

it was just after the last part of the credits rolled in that I realized how meta that experience was. watching an entire sequence that celebrates the joys of girlhood and womanhood along with this intergenerational group of women, mostly strangers to me but to whom I shared an unspoken bond with just because we're all the same gender trying not to lose who we are, discovering all the various things we're made for, and rejoicing in all the unique sorrows and triumphs of being a woman in a world that makes it difficult for us to just...BE.

I didn't think I came out of the theatre with an abrupt raging desire to crush the patriarchy asap, nor did it suddenly embolden me with radical ideas of feminism. but I could feel all of those women who watched it with me walk out of there with a certain power, one that the film reminded us we've always had. to simply...exist. unapologetically. as we are. without the need for permission from anyone but ourselves.

having adhd be like *watches 10 minutes of a movie* *pauses the movie to read 3 pages of a book* *puts the book down to watch 12 minutes of youtube* *pauses youtube to play 7 minutes of a video game* *quits the video game to watch 15 minutes of a tv show* *pauses the tv show to watch 10 more minutes of the movie*
