[SLAVE ZERO X DEMO NOW AVAILABLE]

Hey everyone! For the last two years now almost i’ve been working on the game Slave Zero X, a side-scrolling hack n slash about a vengeful rebel swordsman named Shou who defies his master’s warnings and merges with the experimental bioweapon “X” to inflict unimaginable violence on the enforcers of the ruler of the Megacity, the Sovereign Khan, seeking to learn the fate of his missing lover and if necessary, avenge his death. Fully voice acted with fighting game complexity in a character action title, 2D/3D blended visuals and a Dreamcast/Saturn throwback aesthetic full of malevolent armored cops to slaughter.

We lavished this game from head to toe with pulsing veins, industrial megastructures and oceans of blood shed for a righteous cause. PLEASE - if you’ve ever enjoyed my work and wanted to support me, download the Slave Zero X demo and let us know what you think! I’m so excited for everyone to actually get their hands on this thing!!!

Video games?

No idea what you're fucking talking about

Anonymous asked:

do you have a favorite animal?

I hate choosing definitive favourites of anything bc it always feels too restrictive but some animals I adore include: whip scorpions, bearded vultures, gharials, coelacanths, aurochs, cassowaries... the list goes on. I tend to gravitate towards animals that look a little out of time.

What’s some good music 2 draw 2

I mentioned it before but lately i've been listening to a lot of Emperor X - given that I already mentioned that though, I recommend Dive's "Sanakan's Search for Cibo" which is the best 6 minutes or so of Nihei manga themed japanese shoegaze you'll ever hear

Anonymous asked:

not sure if you've already answered this, but what's your tablet/software combo?

Paint Tool SAI + a Cintiq 22HD (Except when i'm on the road, in which case it's a Cintiq 13HD). Has been that way for... about a decade now!

WETMACHINE /// “ARTILLERY THEORY” [Ver. GLUCOSE] [The holy man spoke to us - we could not protect ourselves, and the words were poison. Those who listened became unable to love, and there was no cure]

Is it ok if I make fanart of Slave Zero X?

It is *more* than okay, please! The whole team treasures the fanart we've received, i'm so grateful anyone feels strongly enough about our game to produce some! Please send it my way when it's done so I can share it with everyone, if that's cool with you!

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of working on Slave Zero X for Poppy Works and Ziggurat. I’ve been fortunate enough to like a bunch of games I’ve worked on but I really, really vibed well with this one! Here’s some of Shou, the protagonist’s movement animations that I worked on. It’s a stylish 2.5D single plane slash em up with a air combo heavy combat system that rocks hard. There’s a demo up now on Steam for next fest. Definitely check it out if that sounds appealing to you!

I love your art and any art with guts and body horror stuff, but I can't stand to look up references for it cuz any real pics are just too much for me. Do you have any recommendations of things to look up that aren't just like pigs cut open?

So the grim reality is that honestly the best reference for the kind of material I used in say, the recent Artillery Theory pieces IS photos of some pretty upsetting subject matter. I have a fairly high tolerance threshold for that but even I tend to steer away from stuff outside of a more clinical setting - for instance, a lot of the refs used for the aforementioned Artillery Theory painting were photos documenting proper procedure in equine intestinal surgery (Horses are FULL of guts lemme tell you).

There are certainly ways to abstract it a little - referencing an existing painting from some other artist can be less intense than the source itself, but that comes with the usual risks of secondhand reference, which is to say the possibility of internalizing mistakes or idiosyncrasies unique to that artist without understanding fully why you're doing them etc. Anatomical diagrams like the kind you might find in an illustrated Gray's Anatomy are also usually "softer" on the brain than surgical photography but also tend to be less representative of stuff like texture or how light falls on a surface.

If you can't handle direct images of animals being butchered like pigs etc. it might be worth looking a little further down the chain to post-butchered slabs of raw pork/beef etc, decontextualized from the whole body. A lot of photo ref sites and photobash repositories like photobash.co have great packs of just like, individual meat sections lit well for the purpose of studies/texturing etc. I own a copy of their "Flesh And Skin II" pack which has barely anything in the way of actual recognizable animal parts while still providing a great set of textures to study - warning for gore/meat regardless though, your mileage may vary.

I hope these help! I got desensitized a long time ago so I tend to just google exactly what i'm looking for and steer away from the worst but it's very important to understand your limits.

Slave Zero X is extremely fun, and looks and sounds great. It's in my top three most anticipated games.

Thank you so much! I let the team know about all the kind messages y'all have sent - it's their hard work more than mine honestly that makes the game what it is, and I want everyone to know i've been directing yr compliments to them!

Got any pieces that needed a lot of revisions before you were happy with them?

Plenty of client work but in terms of personal pieces, if something requires an enormous amount of revisions it tends to start drifting towards either being finished for it's own sake before I spend too much time on it or it falls by the wayside to never be finished. That said, there's a lot of recent work that's taken a long time just full stop - the image I want to convey is clear, the process is a direct line to completion and I love how it's working out, but the lack of free time i've had between game and client work and the increasing density/rendering time of my work overall has lead to some pieces taking *months* to finish, which is very alien to me honestly lol
