Oz the Lizardman

Writing in a coffee shop is as old as coffee and shopping itself. Even as the shop gets busy, and the hiss of the espresso machine grows louder, it cannot break over the call of passion. (I apologize.) Female Main Character x Male Monster

I’ve always admired people who are charismatic and have a magnetic personality that brings people in. I wasn’t blessed with such abilities. In fact, some might say I’m the opposite side of that magnet, and I push away. Not that I’m a bad person or anything, I just look like I am. Even as a baby my mom had to explain to people I wasn’t upset, that was just my face.

I’ve learned to cope and how to work around it. Becoming a writer made that easy, the internet made it even easier. Despite that, I still enjoyed getting out of my place. I loved coffee shops and cafes, even if it looked like I didn’t. I enjoyed going to them, sitting down for a minute, and writing just whatever came to me. I may not be the charismatic main character of my dreams, but I get to see people who are, people who aren’t, and everything in between. It’s nice sometimes.

My favorite to visit was called the Broken Colander. I had started frequenting it about a year or so ago, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place so much I made it my regular. I would grab my favorite table towards the back corner and enjoy the people outside the window, as well as the ones inside the cafe as well. Don’t get me started on the owner either.

Fireweed Grouse Collar 🐚🌌

I made this collar/stole for my high school graduation this year; the two main symbols on it, the grouse and the fireweed, are two important beings to my clan I’m particular. The formline shapes and stitching is a little bit rough in some places as this was the first time I ever made something like this, but I am still very proud of how it turned out, and even prouder that I got to wear it during my graduation ceremony.

The collar is made from felt, ultrasuede, and abalone shell buttons, and took approximately two-three months to make.

Whenever a new fantasy/historical drama comes out I eagerly look forward to the rants from the handful of people I follow on here who are deeply into historical fashion and costuming. It's like

I need you to FREAKING listen to me. Back when I lived with my parents my mom would watch Hallmark channel and there was this show called When Calls the Heart. It was supposed to be in like late Victorian era or Edwardian era....... I think? (they have early cars) And THIS is what the costumes look like......

Literally all you had to do to make it quasi-believable was fix their hair/facial hair and give them hats. Also fix the character's neckline, she's the only character in the show where they're like "no she must be hot and have a V neck"

Ok sorry I had to get that out of my system.

Get yourself a fabric store that will light your fabric on fire for you

No but legit I asked what the fiber content of something was and the guy didn’t know so he cut a chunk off and lit it on fire and felt the ashes and was like. Yeah this is mostly cotton with a lil bit of silk. And that was the moment I knew. This is it. This is the fabric store for me. Also that guy is marriage material. Not for me but damn some person is gonna be so happy with him.

Ok but this is actually one of the easiest ways to tell what something is made of! I did a textiles degree and one day as part of a class we all went outside with a pile of scrap fabric and set fire to the little pieces and recorded how they burned. We were given a chart that looked something like this to tell what each fabric was (it gets a little tricky is it’s a mix of fabrics though). Why did we do this? There is very little regulation in the textiles industry so a lot of materials are mislabelled as something they aren’t and sold for more than they should be, also sometimes people buy fabric second hand or discounted which doesn’t have any label at all. If you have a fabric you are having doubts about, cut a tiny piece off and do the burn test and you should know pretty fast what you are dealing with. Anyways your fabric store should be lighting things on fire because this means that they are actually checking what the fabrics are and aren’t trying to pass cheap stuff off as more expensive than it is.

Ooh! I knew it was a standard test but I hadn’t seen a chart as detailed as this thank you!

I’m a huge lover of music and I found this was an amazing short explanation of how they designed Loki’s theme- making it this ethereal harp music that spoke to the internal part of his mind. It really hit me in the feels.

Oh, the real Loki and the real Loki's theme. And the composer who really cares about Loki.

the Texas Blind Snake looks exactly like an earthworm until you pick it up and notice that it has a tiny mouth, with which to scream

Blind snakes use that cute little overbite mouth to feed on larval and adult ants and termites. And their weird tiny skulls look like this:

I’ve only ever seen one in the wild and it was a magical experience. They are so cute and weird.

““Hell is other people” is only one side of the coin. The other side, which no one seems to mention, is also “Heaven is each other”. Hell is separateness, uncommunicability, self-centeredness, lust for power, for riches, for fame. Heaven on the other hand is very simple, and very hard: caring about your fellow beings. And that’s possible on a sustained basis only in collectivity.”

Today's advice from your Goth Auntie

  • Relax your shoulders, have a snack, take your meds.
  • You aren't responsible for everything.
  • Pseudopodia + dusting cloths was a disaster involving skidding into walls, but boo-boos have been kissed better and things are fine.
