if I hear the term “schizophrenic pop” again, I’m gonna schizophrenic pop somebody in the mouth
My Name Is (Enter Mental Illness Here)
Over the years, western society has come to accept common mental illnesses like depression, anorexia nervosa, and generalized anxiety. This is a big step and although healthcare for these conditions isn’t great, it’s gradually improving. Unfortunately, despite this, there’s still a heavy stigma around people suffering from psychotic mental illnesses.
To be more specific, people are afraid of those with paranoid schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and other psychoses. There’s also cruelty towards those with personality disorders.
No one chooses to have a mental illness. They’re diseases like cancer, lupus, or AIDS and should be treated as such. These people need as much support and love as anyone else, because they aren’t less than. They’re only “scary” if you make them out to be.
People struggling with mental disease are trying their hardest to fight it, but can you imagine being disconnected from reality? They’re can be paranoid, sometimes they’re terrified, and discrimination doesn’t help them. What they really need is a reform in medical care (psychiatric care is dismal) and a reform in how they’re judged by society. Even if they’re problems are brought on from substance abuse - addicts deserve help too.
To people struggling through every day with a psychotic mental disease: you’re valued, you’re strong, and I have the upmost respect for you. Keep going, you can do this.
Have you ever met someone with schizophrenia or a schizophrenia spectrum disorder? Have you ever seen a post talking about our struggles and throwing numbers at you in that old fashioned, block o’ text style and think “that’s a lot to process.” Well, have no fears, because here’s your handy dandy aesthetic summary to the mental illness that 1% of the population suffers with. ( All statistics compiled from schizophrenia.org, NIMH, Mayo Clinic, and various other scientific journals )
So today I got this rude athletic asshole of a costumer. He asked for soy milk and made it very clear he wanted soy. Well my trainer left me alone by myself and I was practically feed to the dogs for an hour. I had to look up the recipe as I told the guy I was in training he started to roll his eyes. I finished and I said I'm sorry for the wait and he said whatever. "Darn I "accidentally" forgot to use soy. He stormed out and all I could think was enjoy "enjoy your 2% milk asshole."
Oh, you “accidentally” forgot the soy, did you. You’re so metal dude.
Except you’re a fucking assclown. Not sure if you’re aware of this but some people are allergic to milk. Some of those people are REALLY allergic to milk. So when they ask for soy and “oops you accidentally-on-purpose-forgot and now they’re drinking actual dairy” you’re directly putting someones health at risk.
Because what, you were flustered and he was a dick to you? So fucking what. Decaf his ass and move on.
Look, everyone, I want to make this very clear. I understand decaffing rude motherfuckers. I also understand accidentally-on-purpose forgetting flavors, using too much foam (a personal fave) and the like. Fucking with the occasional dirt bag customer like that is an age old barista rite of passage. But always ALWAYS do it by removing things, not adding things. When you add things, you could potentially be putting people at risk. No one is going to go into anaphylactic shock because they got decaf but you could really fuck someone up by giving them milk instead of soy milk.
Meditation for Anxiety
To practice this guided meditation, sit in a comfortable position, with your back straight and your head level and breathe in with the breathing in lines and breathe out with the breathing out lines.
Breathing in, I am aware of my breath going in
Breathing out, I am aware of my breath going out
Breathing in, I am present in my body
Breathing out, I am present in time and space
Breathing in, I invite a new perspective on anxiety
Breathing out, I empty my mind
Breathing in, I give myself the gift of fresh air
Breathing out, I give back to the world
Breathing in, I recognize that I suffer from anxiety
Breathing out, I wish to change that habit
Breathing in, I know that I am human
Breathing out, I know that people get anxious
Breathing In, I feel the pain and worry
Breathing out, I give that to the world
Breathing in, I feel the world’s anxiety
Breathing out, I send the world peace
Breathing in, I am connected to all people
Breathing out, I wish people to be free of suffering
Breathing in, I am connected to myself
Breathing out, I wish to be free of suffering
Breathing in, I invite peace into my life
Breathing out, I share peace with the world
Breathing in, I see my anxiety is a reaction
Breathing out, I can work with that reaction
Breathing in, my anxiety reminds me to be aware
Breathing out, I am aware of my anxiety
Breathing in, my anxiety compels me toward action
Breathing out, I act with my anxiety
Breathing in, I locate my anxiety in time and space
Breathing out, I locate myself in the present
Breathing in, I locate my anxiety in my amygdala
Breathing out, I shrink that tiny part of my brain
Breathing in, I worry that this won’t work
Breathing out, I see that as an anxious thought
Breathing in, I know anxious thoughts unsettle me
Breathing out, I let my thoughts go.
Breathing in, I am present in my body
Breathing out, I am present in time and space
Breathing in, I am aware of my breath going in
Breathing out, I am aware of my breath going out
