People got killed, and he’s trying to follow Cassian, because he is this rogue upstart who could be the beginning of something much larger. He’s also trying to be seen and acknowledged by his superiors, by bringing everybody up to his level. But Syril is so dissociated from his own sense of place in society, self-worth and connection with other people that he has such an emotional core because of everything that has been kept rigidly tucked in, zipped up, and buttoned in that it leaves him with a lot of frustration and anger.
