Zutara Week 2020 Day 7: Rebirth

Have ALL the spring/rebirth symbolism. ALL OF IT. I also sort of wanted to symbolize a rebirth of their nation through the union of their clothing design aesthetics and stuff, but mostly just wanted to make something cute, pretty, and ethereal. Their clothes are also mostly casual because I was thinking this would be shortly after having the baby, and the brand new family is taking their first moments outside in springtime together. No need to dress up all fancy. I don’t know! And drawing cute chubby cheeked babies is fun ToT 

So, Happy Zutara week everyone. This was so much fun, and it’s been so nice to see how active the Zutara and ATLA fandom still is. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. It’s been lovely to see everyone’s creations and metas and everything; it’s really made my rewatch of Avatar super fun and nostalgic. And thanks to @lyndezart for keeping Zutara week up and running; appreciate you and the original progenitors of Zutara week for all your hard work! I can’t wait for next year :)

best thing about uncle iroh is that if you pay attention he is actually just as much of an idiot as zuko but has just mastered the art of coming across as a wise old man. the even better thing is that zuko is the only one on the planet who somewhat realizes this and no one would ever believe him because he's zuko

like uncle iroh 100% does dumb shit on purpose sometimes to get people to underestimate him and keep zuko from capturing the avatar, but other times he just, and i cannot emphasize this enough, does impulsive dumb shit for no reason other than the fact that terminal stupid presumably runs in the royal family's blood

Building Up: Air Nomad Cuisine Pt. 1 - The Dynamic Duo

When conceptualizing Air Nomad cuisine, I took inspiration from dishes of the Himalayas, primarily Tibetan. Since Air Nomads spend much of their lives living in high altitudes, I felt their cuisine should reflect the needs of that lifestyle. It would also take advantage of the dairy that sky bison could likely provide. In short, while all dishes shown will be vegetarian, very few will be vegan. If you’re interested in trying any of these foods, click on the name of each dish for a recipe or product website.

Tsampa

Tsampa (རྩམ་པ་) is roasted barley flour and a staple food in Tibetan cuisine. It can be blended with milk and butter to make a savory porridge or mixed with leftover Tibetan tea to create an energy-dense edible dough. It’s a nutritious and hardy ingredient, making it the perfect foodstuff for nomads traveling at high altitudes and in cold climates.

Butter Tea

Also known as “Tibetan tea” or “churned tea” (cha süma / ཇ་སྲུབ་མ), this beverage is iconic to Tibetan culture and is popular throughout the Himalayas and Central Asia. Traditionally, it is made by boiling tea and then churning it with yak butter and salt. I imagine that the ATLA equivalent would use sky bison butter. Since butter is the main ingredient, the tea provides plenty of caloric energy and prevents chapped lips from harsh winds.

I can imagine Iroh being a big butter tea fan. 8)
