Here’s the video from my CNBC appearance tonight debating Obamacare. My point? If Obamacare is such a failure, why have 4 million people signed up for exchanges? Why are 3.6 million new people getting health care from Medicaid expansion? Why did the Republican-controlled New Hampshire State Senate vote yesterday to expand Medicaid? And why do only 28% of Americans want to repeal it?

The clip on the website cut this out, but I also discussed the well-funded misinformation campaign against Obamacare and spoke about Perry Bacon’s piece last month on a Kentucky Republican woman who hates Obama but just signed up for Obamacare.

When you break down the law’s components, most Americans actually like the Affordable Care Act. They like coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. They like kids being able to stay on parents’ health care plans until they turn 26. And they like banning insurance companies form imposing lifetime limits on coverage.

Finally, the truth is any new major initiative will create some problems that can be exploited. When Social Security was started in 1935, it created massive government headaches dealing with duplicate surnames and no computers, and it took years to fix the problems and develop a system to cover 22 million workers.

Truth nuggets about the ACA.

mr. obama is just a cool man in general

Exactly what makes him a “shitty” president? I’m not saying he’s perfect. But half the people in this country have no idea what he’s accomplished so far (despite having a GOP controlled congress that is hell bent on obstructing him on everything) and how many of his campaign promises he’s actually kept. I’d be more than happy to share some information and resources for you. Point is, I would gladly take him in a heartbeat over the Bushes and that prick Ronald Reagan. Take that for what it’s worth.

America was prosperous under Ronald Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2. Why do people say they’d prefer Obama? The cool factor? Gay marriage? Because “he cares”? This is how liberals think. That’s the extent of their intellect.

America was prosperous under Reagan? Are you serious? Reagan’s economic policies PERMANENTLY crippled the middle-class. He destroyed the American dream for so many people and to this day the middle-class is still feeling the effects of his policies. The middle-class was never able to recover from him. The only ones that actually prospered during Reagan’s presidency were the 1%. The rich. Not just that but…

1. Reagan cut taxes for the Rich, increased taxes on the Middle Class -

Ronald Reagan is loved by conservatives and was loved by big business throughout his presidency and there’s a reason for it. When Reagan came into office in January of 1981, the top tax rate was 70%, but when he left office in 1989 the top tax rate was down to only 28%. As Reagan gave the breaks to all his rich friends, there was a lack of revenue coming into the federal government. In order to bring money back into the government, Reagan was forced to raise taxes eleven times throughout his time in office. One example was when he signed into law the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. Reagan raised taxes seven of the eight years he was in office and the tax increases were felt hardest by the lower and middle class.

2. Tripling the National Debt -

As Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, the government was left with less money to spend. When Reagan came into office the national debt was $900 billion, by the time he left the national debt had tripled to $2.8 trillion.

3. Iran/Contra -

In 1986, a group of Americans were being held hostage by a terrorist group with ties to Iran. In an attempt to free the hostages, Ronald Reagan secretly sold arms and money to Iran. Much of the money that was received from the trade went to fund the Nicaragua Contra rebels who were in a war with the Sandinista government of Nicaragua. When the scandal broke in the Untied States it became the biggest story in the country, Reagan tried to down play what happened, but never fully recovered.

4. Reagan funded Terrorists -

The attacks on 9/11 by al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden brought new attention to international terrorism. All of a sudden, Americans coast to coast wore their American flag pins, ate their freedom fries and couldn’t wait to go to war with anyone who looked like a Muslim. What Americans didn’t realize was that the same group that attacked the United States on 9/11 was funded by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Prepping for a possible war with the Soviet Union, Ronald Reagan spent billions of dollars funding the Islamist mujahidin Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan. With billions of American dollars, weapons and training coming their way, the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden took everything they were given and gave it back to the United States over a decade later in the worst possible way imaginable.

5. Unemployment issues -

When Ronald Reagan came into office 1981, unemployment was at 7.5%. After Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, he began raising taxes on the middle and lower class. Corporations started to ship more jobs out of the United States while hiring cheap foreign labor in order to make a bigger profit. While corporations made billions, Americans across the country lost their jobs. As 1982 came to a close, unemployment was nearly 11%. Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. The middle and lower class had their wages nearly frozen as the top earners saw dramatic increases in salary.

6. Ignoring AIDS-

By the time the 1980s came around, AIDS had become one of the most frightening things to happen to the country in recent memory. No one understood what AIDS and HIV really was and when people don’t understand something, they become scared of it. The fear of the unknown was sweeping across the country and Americans needed a leader to speak out about this horrible virus, that leader never came. Instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and taking charge, Reagan kept quiet. Reagan couldn’t say the words AIDS or HIV until seven years into his presidency, a leader not so much.

7. Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million Undocumented Immigrants -

In today’s GOP, the idea of any immigrant staying in the United States whether they are legal or illegal isn’t something that conservatives embrace. What might shock them is that in 1982 Ronald Reagan gave nearly 3 million undocumented workers amnesty. The biggest reason for undocumented workers coming to the United States is because corporations hire them at a cheaper rate than they would an American citizen. All the laws that would have cracked down on companies who hire undocumented workers were, of course, removed from the bill.

8. His attack on Unions and the Middle Class - The Republican war on unions and the middle class has been heating up in states like Wisconsin and Ohio, but it has been going on for a long time. Unions are formed to give a united voice to the workers in an attempt to create fairness between the corporations and their employees. On August 3rd, 1981, PATCO (Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization) went on strike in an effort to get better pay and safer working conditions. Two days later, taking the side of business, Ronald Reagan fired 11,345 workers for not returning to work.

I see a’lot of Republicans wishing President Obama was more like Reagan. In that case…

Now as for George W. Bush…

A new report in theWashington Postdetails exactly how the Bush Administration destroyed the American economy.

According to the Bush Administration’s own records, when Bush was elected in 2000, he inherited a federal budget surplus of $236 billion from the Clinton Administration.

In 1998, the Federal budget reported its first surplus ($69 billion) since 1969. In 1999, the surplus nearly doubled to $125 billion, and then again in 2000 to $236 billion.”
Office of Management and Budget Fiscal Year 2002 Guide The Budget Surplus and Fiscal Discipline

But in 2008, after eight years of George W. Bush, the federal budget deficit soared to $454.8 billion almost triple the $161.5 billion recorded in fiscal year 2007. How did Bush squander the huge budget surplus, when he had a Republican controlled House and a Republican controlled Senate? There were many factors involved in creating the Bush Deficits, including the normal ebb and flow of the economy, but presidential mismanagement was by far the biggest factor. Bush Republicans abandoned three key conservative principles: a balanced budget, a strong military, and service to country. Instead Republicans implemented several other conservative ideas, including lower taxes for the rich and deregulation of the financial industry. The result was a fiscal disaster. The first to go was the call to make sacrifices for your country. After the 9/11 attacks, the entire country was united behind the President. But instead of asking Americans to make sacrifices for their country in a time of war, Bush told us to go on vacation.

Get down to Disney World in Florida.  Take your families and enjoy life, the way we want it to be enjoyed.” President George W. Bush Chicago, Illinois September 27, 2001

Instead of asking Americans to pay higher taxes to pay for the War On Terror, Bush threw away the balanced budget and choose to borrow money instead. Americans understood why taxes needed to be raised for the war effort, but Bush and the Republicans didn’t. Republicans thought that holding down taxes was more important than paying for the war. Republicans thought that lowering taxes on the wealthy and deregulating the financial industry would spark the economy. Exactly the opposite happened. The wheels came off. Bush’s greatest mistake was gutting the military by illegally invading Iraq, instead of crushing Al Qaeda and killing or capturing Osama bin Laden. The war in Iraq stretched the military to the breaking point, shattered the budget, and divided the country in a time of war. No matter what you think of Bill Clinton (draft dodger, philanderer, cheat), you have to admit that he is highly intelligent and that he did a great job with the economy. George W. Bush, on the other hand, is a man of average intelligence who presided over a historic collapse of the American economy. For those of us who staunchly believe in conservative principles such as a balance budget, a strong military, and service to our country, the question is simple. Why would you ever vote for a Republican again? The Republicans are the ones who got us into this mess. Why would you trust them to get us out of it?

And to answer your question why I would prefer Obama over those numbskulls, it’s easy. Because I truly believe that President Obama is trying to do the best he can with what he’s got. President Obama inherited a mess and he is still cleaning it up. Now I know what you’re gonna say: “All Liberals do is blame Bush for their problems”. Friend, it’s not that we love blaming Bush for all our problems. It’s just that we love rubbing Republicans’ noses in their fuck ups as a grim reminder that they are the reason we are in the mess we are still in. And the reality of the situation is that NOBODY has completely gotten over the clusterfuck Bush left behind. Yes, Americans prefer President Obama for those reasons. He is for equality, education, clean energy, reasonable gun control (as opposed to what the NRA and gun enthusiasts are saying) and a realistic stance on foreign relations. The economy is actually improving under his administration…

On top of that, he has overseen the least amount of federal spending since President Eisenhower…

He actually tries to solve things diplomatically as opposed to going in all gun-ho. Here’s a list as to why many Americans prefer President Obama…

 1) One of the biggest and most-criticized Obama-backed reforms is the historic Affordable Care Act. Five presidents actually failed to create a health insurance plan that was not exorbitant and that Americans, across the aboard, could participate in. This year, more than 30-million Americans will finally gain access to quality and affordable healthcare insurance coverage. Bravo!

2) Former President George W. Bush could not do it, but our Prez did! After nine long and debilitating years in Iraq, 4,000 U.S. soldier deaths, and 32,000 U.S. troop injuries, the war that began in March 2003 under Bush’s watchful eye came to an end in December 2011. Obama had fulfilled one of his central campaign promises to end the war that he once referred to as “dumb,” vowing at the time to bring the troops home under his administration.

3) Osama Bin Laden was a dastardly terrorist who masterminded a devastating attack on these shores. The Al Qaeda terrorist group leader and the most-hunted man on the planet, who had eluded the CIA and the U.S. military for nearly a decade, was finally killed in May 2011. The defining moment in the American-led fight against terrorism that took place under Obama’s command gave further impetus to the President’s agenda of finally bringing the American troops home. Bin Laden’s demise came nearly 10 years after Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four American passenger jets on September 11, 2001, crashing three of them into the World Trade Center in New York City and the U.S. Pentagon outside Washington D.C. The fourth hijacked jet, United Flight 93, crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside after passengers fought the militants.

4) Our president is one of the eco-friendliest we’ve had in power. Obama pushed federal agencies to become more eco-conscious. More than four years ago, he issued an executive order requiring all federal agencies to make plans to curb their environmental impacts by 2020. Goals included a 30 percent reduction in fleet gasoline use, 26 percent boost in water efficiency, and sustainability requirements for 95 percent on all federal contracts. Since the federal government is the country’s single biggest purchaser of goods and services, the push is very likely to have ripple effects throughout the economy for years to come.

5) With his First Lady Michelle by his side, together, they fought the good fight of putting in place healthier school meals in an effort to wipe out childhood obesity. President Obama signed the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act in 2010, mandating that $4.5 billion be allotted toward developing higher nutritional and health standards for this country’s children’s lunches. The bill meant that the amount of nutritional fruits and veggies are doubled and require that only whole grains in food be served to school-aged children.

These five Obama accomplishments are just a drop in the bucket in the string of successes that he has secured under his belt. What the man got done in the first two years in office is mind-boggling, even though he has been met with combative opposition from Conservative populist, social, and political Tea Party members. Obama has steered this country out of what many economic forecasters were saying would have resulted in a second Great Depression.

Yet through it all and then some, Barack Obama has maintained his cool-like-dat ‘tude, dashing smile, and confident stride. We also admire the President because he is also a loving husband, doting dad and nurturing friend. One day we’ll look back on this time as one where a glorious icon lived in American politics.  And speaking of accomplishments, here is a long list of things that President Obama has accomplished with citations…

And here is also a long list of every campaign promise he has kept so far…

So there you have it in a nutshell. Hope it helped. And yes, it also helps that he’s one cool cat. Like I said, he ain’t perfect. But I will gladly take him over Reagan and the Bushes.

Good luck trying to “snuff out the left”. At this rate, the right is on the endangered list. And unless they realize that what they offer ain’t working anymore and the American people ain’t liking what they are selling, they will go the way of the Dodo. Either that or become a minority. I didn’t ditch the Republican party for no reason, friend. Quite frankly I am ashamed to have voted Republican for a good portion of my life. Republicans need to get their shit together fast.
