Wii Facts Plus

The Wii Facts Plus blog is now on an indefinite hiatus due to real-life time constraints. Thank you all very much for your support over the years! The Twitter and Tumblr blogs both will remain up for as long as they don't get banned or something. My main account is @HEYimHeroic on all platforms... though I don't use Tumblr outside of using it for Wii Facts Plus. So I suggest you follow me elsewhere under that username, like Twitter or Cohost.

This blog is what started my interest in Mii trivia, documentation, and preservation efforts. The blog is not going on hiatus because I no longer have an interest in Miis - quite the opposite, actually! I now have many other projects that are (at least from a preservation/archival standpoint) more important than the Wii Facts Plus blog. For example, my main focus, the Mii Library, which aims to archive and preserve every officially recognized Mii ever. (Though, the site is also on hiatus as of this post... But only because I'm working on rewriting the whole site!)

I still occassionally post Mii facts on my main Twitter account, which may get retweeted onto the Wii Facts Plus Twitter blog in the future. It will not get reposted onto the Tumblr account, however. Also, I always make it a point to make a post about Mii birthday events on my birthday, February 23rd, so I may continue doing that for the Wii Facts Plus blog. Overall, I'm still collecting many, many interesting Mii facts, I just am either not posting it because it should go on the Mii Library, or I'm posting it as regular tweets on my main account on Twitter. But I understand finding those tweets may be hard, so that's why I think I may retweet them on the Wii Facts Plus Twitter account!

For long-form Mii trivia content, I will sometimes also post on my main Cohost account. Though I don't have much content on it currently, I do have one very long post about Saburo's interesting history, all the way from Wii Sports, up to Nintendo Switch Sports, and even dipping into Smash Bros. I also plan to post some interesting Mii stuff on my main YouTube channel, but there's currently nothing there as of writing this post. But expect to see both Shorts and longer videos explaining technical Mii things!

The Mii Library rewrite is coming along! There are so many useful features that I'll be able to implement that I wouldn't be able to if I was still using Google Sites. Some features are just for-fun, but other features help readers of the site to get the Miis onto their systems more easily! I can't wait.

Thank you all once again for everything. Mii facts are my passion, and probably will be for a good while. This blog officially entering hiatus just allows me more headspace to work on the more important Mii projects of mine. So, once again...

If a user Mii on a Wii U has a birthday set, booting to the Wii U Menu on this day will result in a celebratory jingle being played, golden confetti, other user Miis clapping for the birthday user, and the usual Miis that stand under the icons in the WaraWara Plaza will now run to their spots with their arms in the air.

Mario Kart Tour will occasionally feature Challenges that can only be completed by using a driver of a certain type. For example, some Challenges can only be completed when using a driver wearing a cap, and using drivers without a cap or wearing something other than a cap (helmet, crown, etc.) will not count towards that Challenge.

One of these type requirements is "a driver with a mustache". However, it seems this works oddly with Mii drivers. Here, I'll be showing a Challenge requiring a driver with a mustache, and you'll see that by using specific types of Mii racing suit drivers, I get different results.

Here is a screenshot of one Challenge with the mustache requirement. Please ignore the current progress of 3/5 in the Challenge. This was due to previous races before beginning the testing.

Keep this in mind. This will be the base value. Now, let us do some testing.

I tried to activate Frenzy mode under various different conditions. The first test was done with a Mii that does not have a mustache, using the Bronze Mii Racing Suit. I activated Frenzy mode once in a race, and this value did not change. This is expected, of course, but it is still important to establish a good basis to eliminate any potential doubt.

Next, I attempted the same thing (active Frenzy mode with the Bronze Mii Racing Suit), but this time, using a Mii that does have a mustache. However, yet again, the Challenge progress stayed at 3/5. It never increased, despite the Mii racer having a mustache. This is likely intentional, as this would mean that some Miis would have an inherent advantage over others. There would be no point to racing with a Mii who doesn't have a mustache if Miis with mustaches are able to complete more Challenges, which is likely undesirable.

Finally, I now attempted something different: activating Frenzy mode with a different Mii racing suit driver. In this instance, I used the Wario Mii Racing Suit, which has a large mustache design on the front of it, similar to Wario's own mustache. The Mii I used was once again the Mii that did not have a mustache. After the race finished, I checked the progress of the Challenge, and as you can see:

...4/5, which has increased from the previous screenshot. It seems Mario Kart Tour decides a Mii driver has a mustache not from the Mii themself, but rather, from the helmet design they are wearing. The Bronze Mii Racing Suit contains no unique or specific designs on it anywhere, and certainly none akin to that of a mustache. However, the Wario Mii Racing Suit (along with a few others, like the King Bob-omb Mii Racing Suit, for example) have large mustache designs on the front.

As you can see, Mario Kart Tour's definition of whether Miis have mustaches is not what it may suggest. All information in this post is factual at the time of posting; it's possible the information presented in this post can change in a later update to the game. The version used at the time of posting is v2.13.0.

In Tomodachi Life, the song sung by Miis when it is the player's real life birthday is the incredibly common Happy Birthday to You song. While the song is in the public domain nowadays, it only entered the public domain in 2015, whereas Tomodachi Life released in 2013. Therefore, at the time, Nintendo was not allowed to have the Miis sing the full lyrics due to copyright reasons, instead simply humming the melody and saying "[Mii]'s look-alike" when it gets to the name part. Shown is footage of a player (Alice) booting up the game on their birthday.

Nintendo of Japan has written an article describing tips on how to create good Mii designs when it comes to original characters for Miitopia (3DS) in 2017. In the article, it embeds seven unlisted YouTube videos, each showing the process of creating different Miis. While the Miis have never been officially released, since the videos show the entire creation process of them, we can recreate them with nearly 100% accuracy. I have studied these videos frame-by-frame to get an accurate as possible Mii, and today, I am finally prepared to share them with my readers. Here, I've shown off the Miis each video showcases, along with QR codes I have made to scan in on your own systems.

Since many Miis use custom Miitopia-specific options, please understand that the QR codes are Miitopia QR codes. I have also converted the Miitopia (3DS) colors to the closest matching colors available for all Miis on the Nintendo Switch and generated a list of Switch recreation instructions, if you would like to use these Miis for the Switch version of Miitopia.

Additionally, as I only have access to English copies of the game, the name and other information in the QR code will be translated versions of the words. I also have no way of setting the Mii's "I" pronouns (as Japanese versions of Miitopia lets you set your own "I" pronoun). I hope none of this is of any inconvenience.

The first video shows how to make a "cute" Mii. The name given to the Mii translates to "Laid-back", which is also the personality. The war cry is set to "ごはんまだー？", which translates to "Is it still morning..?", and their pronoun is "あたち", which is a cute way of saying "I". They are a Cat and wear the Outlandish Cat Suit on the first color option with Kitten Claws.

In Wii Sports Club's Tennis, before beginning a game, hovering over the players will enlarge their models. However, if this is done immediately after selecting a number of matches, the Mii will stay temporarily enlarged on the next screen only.

The Wii Balance Board will compare your achieved Fit Meter distance and altitude in the Fit Meter Challenges in Wii Fit U. It will tell you your distance or altitude, and then compare it to the distance or height of an object in real life. For example:

Through a glitch, it's possible in Miitopia (Switch) to enter a completely blank name for the horse companion. Once the keyboard pops up asking for a name, if the HOME button is pressed and a different keyboard prompt is brought up in the HOME menu (shown here with the "add text" button in the Album), returning to the game will make the horse's name be an empty string. Menus and Miis will simply not refer to the horse by any name.

This is possible in all versions of the game, including the latest version, version 1.0.3 (full game) and 1.0.2 (free demo). In the Mii texture data included on the Wii lies an unused pair of glasses (or more specifically, sunglasses). This glasses type never made an appearance on later platforms, meaning this is unique to the Wii. Below are screenshots where it was modded to replace a different glasses type, along with all color variations. Also note the darker color rim on the inside of the lens.

Note: No icon for this glasses type was found, so the selection icon in the Mii Channel’s editor will look different than the glasses the Mii is actually wearing. The unused ones are on the Mii, to the left.

The music that plays on the Nikki and Friends 3DS theme is actually a Swapdoodle-styled remix of the Miitopia track "Delivery!" that plays when the Prodigious Postman is on-screen. This is a very fitting reference, as both Nikki and the Prodigious Postman are heavily associated with letters.

The audio track attached switches between the two tracks every couple of seconds, starting with the Nikki and Friends music.

Note that the Nikki and Friends theme released in June 2017, about 6 months after the 3DS version of Miitopia released in December 2016, meaning Nikki and Friends is referencing Miitopia and not the other way around.

By extracting the textures used for the ending demo video for Miitopia (Switch), we can see it contains a full HD image of the background used in the box art for both versions of the game (3DS and Switch), without any characters.

Note that the purple sky on the right that is normally present in USA and PAL box art is not present here, just like the JPN box art.

Addendum: It’s possible that Tumblr has automatically compressed the image. In this case, I have reuploaded the image to two sites which should not compress the image. The two mirrors are on Discord and Google Drive. Any further compression is on Nintendo’s part.

The Switch version of Miitopia introduced a new quality of life feature that displays a preview of the Roulette's chances on the Roulette icon, allowing the player to see the chances for each item group without needing to click on the icon like was necessary in the 3DS version.

In the Switch version of Miitopia, the default Miis that appear for the Lovey-Dovey Couple in Greenhorne town are named differently depending on region and language. For US English, they are Schmoopy and Pookie, however, most other languages reference the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet (with the exceptions of US/EU English, Japanese, Korean, and CN/TW Chinese).

And for an unknown reason, US/EU Spanish and Dutch swap the names around for the two (with Julieto being a masculine name and Romea being a feminine one):

To avoid spoilers for players who have not yet played Miitopia, the Wii Facts Plus blogs will not cover content in Miitopia that occurs after the Nintendo Switch version's free demo (available now for free), from now until one month after the full game releases. So, only non-spoiler demo content will be covered in both the 3DS and Switch versions of Miitopia from now until June 21st, 2021, to give everyone the chance to play through the full game once it comes out. Thank you.

In Miitopia, the Mii voices that sing on the title screen actually depend on the Miis in your current party. Every few seconds, it will randomly choose one of the 10 Miis, and will play different voices depending on that Mii's personality.

Here, I have compiled seven 20-second audio clips using Title Screen - Greenhorne as the example. Notice how all 7 clips use completely different voices to sing along to the song, all dependent on the personalities of your Miis. In order, the personalities are kind, energetic, laid-back, cool, stubborn, airheaded, and cautious.

The 3DS's Mii Maker requires that the Personal Mii is favorited. A message will appear preventing a player from unfavoriting the Personal Mii. However, if the Personal Mii is somehow not favorited (only possible via hacks) then favoriting the Mii again will give the Mii a glitched favorite icon. Attempting to un-favorite the Mii again will simply return with the regular error message. Screenshots below.

An official screenshot on the official Nintendo page for Soccer Up 3D (3DS) shows many popular fanmade Miis that aren't used anywhere else officially, including Miis of popular characters, like in the bottom lineup, Batman (2nd from the left), Luigi (3rd from the left), Garfield (1st on the 2nd row), and Peter Griffin (on one of the field slots).

This is not where the Mario references end in the "Mii Stage", as the My Nintendo website calls it internally. (Since I could not find this section of the My Nintendo website referring to it by any specific name elsewhere, this is what I will be calling it from now on.) There are many more to be found in the activities acted out by the Miis. Of course, it seems many qualities of My Nintendo are based off the Mario universe - the logo is shaped like Mario's hat, the platinum points have a Super Mushroom on them, and the gold points have a Super Star on them. However, the references go deeper than that.

But first, you’ll need a Mii. If you do not have a Mii in your Mii Studio, this sign will be sitting in the middle of the Mii Stage, bouncing up and down occasionally. Clicking on it takes you to my.nintendo.com/mii, which redirects to studio.mii.nintendo.com, the Mii Studio. This event is called “Mii unset”.

In some games, Miis can wear Mario character costumes. Viewing the costumes where the Mii's head is inside the character's mouth without the Mii (not usually possible in-game) shows they have the inside of their mouth modeled, looking like screaming versions of the characters.

This also applies to most other character costumes in these games.
