The ribbon cutting ceremony officially marked the completion of the new $664,000 facility. The facility replaces the original Gator Chateau, which was built in 1989. Visitors to the new 5,000-square-foot facility will see alligators of varying sizes up close in the lazy river pond and have a chance to hold and take photos with baby alligators. The attraction also features two turtles including Pierre, a 60-year-old alligator snapping turtle and the Parrain, the exhibit's newest turtle. Other highlights include a front porch with rocking chairs, a back viewing deck and gift shop. A butterfly garden will be added in the future. Located off LA 1-10, Exit 64, in Jennings, the Gator Chateau is open year-round, Monday through Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm, and live gator feedings are hosted every Friday in June through September at 3:30 pm. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the children’s playground and picnic facilities at the Louisiana Oil & Gas Park next door. And of course, there’s a fabulous gift shop on site that features all things alligator! Admission to the Gator Chateau is free of charge, but donations are always appreciated!
