Christmas Tipple Gift Guide - Plus Win a Bottle of Gordon's Gin! - The Less-Refined Mind
I’ve recently published a couple of foodie gift guides – one was for a selection of delicious gifts, and the other was specifically for boozy treats, because – Christmas. Speaking of which, being British and being the yuletide season, it seems only right to go a step further and share some of my favourite festive drinks! I’m also including a few classics, and some rather special premium bottles I was kindly gifted. What’s your favourite Christmas drink? I feel like it’s the one time of year that you can be a little adventurous without being judged, you know? Like, when else is it acceptable (in the real world where we’re not minted and being served dinner on a yacht every night) to drink an aperitif? If you’re anything like me, it’s basically wine or your favourite spirit and mixer all year long – until the end of November. And then suddenly it becomes social to enjoy some of the more obscure beverages. One of my personal faves during the cold season is the coffee float – which is not included below because I already have a whole post dedicated to the art of creating this drink, just like they do in restaurants. What I have included in my guide are some classics, along with one or two luxury items I’ve been kindly sent to sample over the coming weeks (I can’t wait!). Enjoy! *This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase through an affiliate link it doesn’t cost you any extra, but I may get a few pennies towards my Christmas drinks-cabinet fund. Christmas Tipple Gift Guide Lussa Gin This gin is described by the brand as fresh, zesty, and smooth. While the majority of these bottles remain unopened, I confess I’ve tried this and if you’re a fan of gin then I’m sure you’ll agree that this is really lovely. So much so that, if you’re that way inclined, it can be enjoyed neat. Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port One of the classics I’ve included, because who doesn’t enjoy a port at Christmas? I know I do! Pairs wonderfully with mince pies, a slice of stollen, or a cheeseboard; the perfect accompaniment to Christmas! Grab yours here. Haig Club The ultimate stylish gift for Christmas, Haig Club is the iconic Single Grain Scotch Whisky from the House of Haig, created in partnership with David Beckham. It’s designed to be an accessible Scotch for both new whisky drinkers and seasoned whisky lovers. I love the modern and contemporary bottle design and I’ll be displaying this over Christmas for our visitors to enjoy. This whisky is aged in ex-American Bourbon barrels, giving it a ‘unique, smooth and light flavour base of sweet toffee notes and a taste of butterscotch’. Apparently it can be enjoyed either as a long drink, or poured simply over ice. Sounds a treat to me! Snowballs Possibly somewhat less classy, but nonetheless a festive favourite I’m sure you’ll agree! I love mixing these at Christmas, however when else do you drink Advocaat?! So when I saw these in the supermarket I thought they were the perfect solution! Grab yours here! Gordon’s London Dry Gin Alleged to be the world’s favourite gin, and let’s face it – it truly is another classic. Distinctive and refreshing, comprising a unique blend of botanicals centring around juniper berries; delicious. Displayed in a rustic wooden box, this is a fab Christmas gift for gin lovers. And I just happen to have one up for grabs! Scroll down for your chance to win a bottle in time for Christmas! Disaronno Giftset One of my all-time favourites drinks, I couldn’t not include this cute Disaronno giftset. (I may yet gift it to yours truly for those coffee floats…) Dareos Aged Tsipouro (Greek Brandy) When I was approached by The Summerton Club I was very intrigued – a premium spirits subscription service! If you know somebody who enjoys their spirits then this is the perfect Christmas gift – a new aged bottle every month for you or your lucky giftee to enjoy. The particular bottle featured here is a Greek brandy, not currently available in the UK – so you can see the type of exclusive access this subscription provides to members. Brewgooder Clean Water Lager I’m not a great lager drinker, but the initiative behind this brand makes me wish I were. If you do enjoy a can, then buying this one will be furthering a fantastic cause: Their mission is to use their profits to end water poverty for one million people; so far they support 72 clean water projects and have impacted over 53k lives. You can check them out here. Balblair Single Malt Whisky My mum was impressed when I mentioned I’d featuring this whisky. She enjoys the occasional whisky, especially during the crisp season of winter and during the festivities, so I’m earmarking this as a gift for her. Nothing to do with the many heavy hints of course! Balblair produce several vintage whiskys which make perfect gifts for whisky connoisseurs, but are also accessible for the novice drinker. Their signature style of citrus orchards is followed by intense sweetness of toffee and vanilla – I’m sold! Whilst well-known and a firm favourite of many, Balblair is said to be a hidden gem in the wider market. So concludes my alcohol gift guide. Except for the matter of the giveaway of course!
