Abilene Town, Kansas, was the railhead for the cattle drives from Texas. Based on the novel Trail Town by Ernest Haycox it focuses interest on the evolution of this Kansas village from the familiar reckless cowboy town into a more peaceful community, under the guidance of Randolph Scott as Marshal Dan Mitchell, with little help from Edgar Buchanan's bumbling sheriff. Providing his conflicting love interests are Sherry Balder, played by Rhonda Fleming in her first Western, and saloon owner and singer Ann Dvorak.
