Working Through Past Pain: A Preview of "Volledig" at Links Hall | Newcity Stage
RECOMMENDED One day, when Rob Welcher was working on a solo piece, he found himself unexpectedly sobbing. Welcher said the moment made him realize that he had not moved beyond the pain and loss of the AIDS crisis to the extent he thought he had. His new work, "Volledig: Emptied of Shame, Full of Life" (November 29 – December 1), at Links Hall, is a re-exploration of "histories, memories, buried emotions and even old wounds" by Welcher and collaborators—some HIV-positive, some HIV-negative, some diagnosed with AIDS and all effected by the AIDS crisis. The project is funded by the Chicago Dancemakers Forum lab artist award and is the culmination of a year of research and development by Welcher, who focuses heavily on improvisation in the development of his work. Fellow performers include Paul Hamilton, Jeff Hancock, Joseph Hutto, Merrick, Mitchell and Ted Sollinger. (Sharon Hoyer) At Links Hall, 3111 North Western, Thursday - Saturday, November 29 - December 1, 7pm. $10-$40. Tickets at
