Tom Cruise Ditches THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E For MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 - Movies In Focus
Warner Bros. came close, but they ultimately failed to land Tom Cruise for The Man From U.N.CL.E movie. Cruise is gearing up Mission Impossible 5 for an end of year shoot and he just couldn’t fit the movie into his schedule. It would appear that The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer (pretty apt) is attached to the role of Illya Kuryakin (played by David McCallum in the original series), but that director Guy Ritchie is having a harder time locking down a replacement for Robert Vaughn’s Napoleon Solo. The project has been on a start-stop movement for the last few years, when Steven Soderbergh was going to direct George Clooney in the film. That incarnation fell apart because Clooney needed back surgery and Warner Bros. wanted a limited budget for a film that Soderbergh planned to set in the 1960s. The always busy Cruise is now getting ready to focus on Mission: Impossible 5, which will be directed by Jack Reacher’s Christopher McQuarrie, from a script by Drew Pearce. Will The Man From U.N.C.L.E. ever make it to the screen? Source: Deadline
