New Healthy Section of the Blog is Up! | Dishin & Dishes
I’m done and it’s up! The new Healthy Dishes section of the blog is here! Right now, I’ve just gone through and added previous dishes I’ve made that use healthy ingredients such as olive oil, honey and balsamic vinegar to flavor food instead of cream, butter and the likes. If you’re dieting seriously, please note that you may have to make adjustments on a few of the recipes – like omitting sugar and substituting an alternative (I really didn’t put many that contain sugar) or subsituting fat free sour cream for regular in a sauce (I think there was one like that). But generally, all of these recipes are big on flavor and low on fat…I usually try to use olive oil in all my recipes, but remember that even though it is heart-healthy, it still contains calories. So be careful! You can’t eat an avocado a day, even though avocados are healthy, and lose weight! Believe me, I am in mourning about that particular sad fact as well. Below I am listing one of my favorite recipes in each of the new Healthy Dishes sections that are just like my regular sections – Breakfast, Drinks, Appetizers, Soups Salads & Sauces, Meats and Main Dishes, Sides and Desserts. Click on any picture to go to the post and printable recipe! Here is a Healthy Breakfast idea – Homemade Granola. Here is how I eat it. First I spoon a little yogurt into a bowl (plain fat free, you can’t believe how many grams of sugar are in the regular kind!). If I’m working out that day, I add a little vanilla protein powder, or I just leave it plain. Then I spoon 1/2 cup of granola over top with a tiny drizzle of honey. From my Healthy Drinks section…Strawberry Mango Smoothie. Use fresh or frozen fruit in this with yogurt (plain & fat-free) and honey to sweeten! Delicious! I should mention I have moved my Tea Tastings page to Healthy Drinks as well. I love tea and it’s becoming one of the most-popular healthy things to drink! My version of Black Bean Salsa (better known as Oklahoma Caviar around these parts) is very healthy and packed full of protein and veggies. I eat them with Tostito Baked Scoops! Subsitute low-fat Italian dressing for regular! In my Soups, Salads and Sauces section try this Roasted Butternut Squash Bisque With Sage Cream. Just use non-fat plain yogurt to make the sage cream. Greek is even better! It’s delicious! In the Healthy Meats & Main Dishes section I have to beg you to make these Garden Turkey Burgers. Just look at the health (and flavor) in this low fat burger. Again use common sense – be careful with the avocado and use fat-free mayo. In the sides, why not try my Roasted Honey Balsamic Glazed Carrots? You’ll never miss out on any fat with these. They’re yummy! Sadly, I have no healthy breads or desserts and must ponder on that thought for awhile. Cuz, frankly my dears, I just don’t see how “healthy” and “desserts” can coexist. At least not in my present world. But what a challenge! I’m on a quest! I hope you enjoy going through this journey with me. I have a few “bad” recipes to post in the next few days that I haven’t had to time to get in. And on my cheat days, I’ll be making some bad stuff to keep me sane. But I am gonna try hard to eat and be healthy. I think I can, I think I can… I will.
