Mr. Wonderful's Birthday Crab Boil | Dishin & Dishes
Last weekend we celebrated Mr. Wonderful’s birthday. Our son Chris planned a crab boil for him. This is a super-fun thing to do with your family or friends for a party. Just have everyone bring their own portion of crab legs (however many they think they will eat), and one other item (shrimp, red potatoes, corn, mussels, crawfish). Make it so that each person brings about the same dollar amount of the extras to keep it fair. You may need to supply a few extras like onions, lemons and Old Bay seasoning yourself. And you’ll need LOTS of butter to melt and dip it in. Like…maybe several cups. You’ll also need a very large pot. We used Chris’ new turkey fryer and it worked great for the king crab legs. If you’re using snow crab, you can do it on the stove in a soup kettle. You can read instructions on exactly how to do a crab boil here on my previous post. Here is Chris prepping. And here is Shawn, our dear friend (whose house we were at), making her famous Sausage Rolls. Warning! Sausage Rolls are horribly addicting! Once the crab boil is finished, we just taped butcher paper down over the counter and tables and drained and dumped our crab boil right out on them. That’s Chris’ wife Laura offering moral support in the background. And I think she was excited it was finished! We had a lot of people so we were at 2 stations…Mr. W, myself, and his family were in the dining actually eating on plates. We felt very fancy schmancy (unlike our normal crab boils). And the OU game watchers were in the kitchen with a careful eye on the Fiesta Bowl game eating right off the counter. Can you tell which direction the TV is in? And Little Bit? She was in the living room playing with toys and eating Fruity Pebble Treats. The crab boil wasn’t such a big deal to her. Mr. Wonderful was happy when he opened his present from his kids – a five year fishing license! Boy, do they know their Daddy’s heart! And there was cake…I made Mississippi Mud Cake. I’m pretty sure he was asking me why I put all those candles on the cake, cuz he was waiting for the smoke alarm to go off. We had a great time at the Hughes for Mr. Wonderful’s birthday. If you want to do something different for your next party – try a crab boil! Our family sure loves it.
