Take It Lying Down | Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles
There are some things we just can’t stand – and insults are one of them. Each of us has his or her own way to deal with insults – but there’s clinical proof to show that we are better off to take it lying down. The study hinted on the brain’s response to insults – and body position matters when it comes to how we take insults! The brains of those who we insulted while sitting up showed more electrical activity in the left lateral frontal area (connected with experiencing anger) than those insulted while lying flat on their backs! The physiological process is yet to be analyzed and understood. There were more sparks of anger in the brains of participants who were sitting up. They were less happy after the insulting remarks. The research suggests that ‘a reclined body position may reduce “the urge to move toward something” in response to an insult.‘ So the next time you hear an insulting remark directed at you – you can control your reaction to it. You know what to do!
