Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder among Professional Truck drivers and Travelers. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the American Transportation Research Institute of the American Trucking Associations one-third (28%) of commercial truck drivers have mild to severe sleep apnea. Sleep apnea (also known as Obstructive Sleep Disorder) is a breathing-related sleep disorder that causes short interruptions of breathing during sleep. The pauses in breathing can last a minimum of 10 seconds or more and can also occur up to 400 times a night. There are three levels of sleep apnea; mild, moderate, severe. Regardless of what level one may contain, sleep apnea is a serious matter that is a potential life threatening condition.
