11 Pokémon that deserve more love
With 809 Pokémon, some are bound to get left behind, forgotten, unused, and abadoned, forever left to collect up digital dust. Apart from at this little geeky corner of the internet! I’ve rounded up a list of 11 Pokémon that deserve waaaay more love than they get. The poor little critters. Mightyena Okay, I might be a bit biased in that Mightyena is my favourite Pokémon of all time! I’m not even kidding. My weird wolf/hyena hybrid boy was the pride and joy of my team when I was 10 years old, smashing through Pokémon Sapphire. He was the first Pokémon I ever raised to level 100, and he crunched his way through that elite four like it was nobody’s business. But why doesn’t my fluffy boi get more love? I went to Comic Con a couple of years ago, certain that at least somewhere in the depths of its endless halls I’d find some sort of merch related to my fave Pokémon ever. Nope. Not a single trace. Sigh. Guess I’ll have to go back to Alpha Sapphire and train up my golden, shiny Poochyena. I love everything about Mightyena’s design. From his lil red nose to the marks by his eyes, he’s the most beautiful wolf/hyena hybrid I’ve ever seen, and I won’t have a bad word said about him. I want one of my own, IRL! Drampa Okay, so I have a confession to make:… I never finished Pokémon Moon (shock!), so Drampa never actually made it into my team. I don’t know why I didn’t, but I just never got round to finishing the game! I’ll have to dust off my 3DS and get down to it before Sword and Shield come out. Anyways, although I haven’t ever used Drampa, I love him already. Look at Mr. Grandpa Forest, with his silly little moustache. I love him. He’s based on Chinese dragons, which is just the coolest thing ever! He lives alone on mountains 10,000 feet in the air (goals, nobody can bother you all the way up there), and has a sweet, gentle nature. That is, unless a child’s being bullied. Then it burns the bullies house down. All’s fair in the land of Pokémon. Drampa’s also the only Pokémon in the entire game that has the combo of Normal/Dragon, making him very unique indeed. Lanturn . A solid entry from gen 2. Johto is a pretty damn sick region, let’s be honest. Anyway, Lanturn is an absolute beaut of a Pokémon. I love his simple yellow and blue design, his silly little antennas hanging in front of his head, and his squishy little cheeks. Ugh, he’s just so cute. With an unusual type combo of water/electric, Lanturn’s actually a pretty solid contender to have in your team. Also, how sick is this Pokédex entry? “Lanturn is known to emit light. If you peer down into the dark sea from a ship at night, you can sometimes see this Pokémon’s light rising from the depths where it swims. It gives the sea an appearance of a starlit night.” Lanturn also have the highest base HP stat of all electric types. Booyah, my awesome lil fish boi. Pangoro How could you not love this big, fluffy, adorable panda? I mean sure, it could break you in half without even trying, but I just wanna stroke it’s fur, it just looks so damn snuggly! It even keeps the bamboo shoot firmly in its mouth, using it to sense movements around it. Like Drampa, Pangoro doesn’t tolerate those who pick on the weak, making him a force not to be messed with. It’s prior evolution, Pancham, is also super duper cute, too, so there’s that. Noctowl Okay, so Noctowl isn’t that overrated, I admit it. Ash literally has one in his team, and its been featured in movies and a hefty amount of anime episodes. With that said, I still feel like Noctowl doesn’t get enough love. Just look at its design, for starters. It’s a giant friggin’ owl. That’s amazing. In Pokémon lore, Noctowl is literally called ‘the emperor of dark nights’, which is the coolest title, like, ever. While its been shown a dash of love, I still demand 700 various plushies, figurines and toys of this badass owl. Treat it like the emperor it truly is. Aurorus Sorry, but is that not one of the most glorious Pokémon you’ve ever seen?! If this badass dinosaur had rocked up in Gen 1, everyone would be all over it. My magical ice dinosaur, ily. The sails running down its neck can change colour depending on its mood, and the ice crystals dotted all over its body are -150 degrees Celcius. Aurorus – and its pre-evolution – are also the only Pokémon that have the unique rock/ice type combination, which is pretty damn cool. It also has the highest base HP-state of all rock-type Pokémon, making it a beast in battle. Luxray Okay, so perhaps Luxray gets some love, but nowhere near as he deserves. Just look at my electric little lion boy! I’m a sucker for feline-looking Pokémon, and with Luxray’s dreamy colour palette and sleek design, he won over my icy little heart. While there are plenty of people within the Pokémon fandom who appreciate Luxray, I still feel as though he doesn’t get enough love in the mainstream. He’s just so damn cool, okay? Its shiny design palette is also kinda sick, too. Tropius Tropius is like Aurorus’ long lost cousin… or something. Both are dinosaur-like, both are badass, and both don’t get as nearly much love as they deserve. I mean, just look at him! He’s got gigantic leaves for wings, for goodness sake! And lest us forget that stunning banana beard. Stumbling into the rainy tall grass in Hoenn and encountering this strange creature was an experience that 10-year-old-me will never quite recover from. According to lore, it has the exact size and weight as Venasaur, a fellow grass type. Um, okay? So either Venasaurs are absolutely huge or Tropius isn’t quite as big as I’m imagining… I still love the silly leafy dino, though. Linoone Oh, Linoone! Even the name is fun to say. Many so-called Pokémon “trainers” reduce him to a HM Slave, but not I! Just look at this beautiful silky… badger? Weasel? Ferret? Let’s just go with ferret, I feel like that works. Anyway, look at him and his beautiful eyes! Let’s just not talk about the Galarian Linoone, okay? That is made from nightmares and people who want me to have no joy in my life. Although I guess the final evo isn’t so bad. (I realise this is my third entry from Hoenn, but, y’know what? Hoenn is sorely underrated anyway). Bewear Bewear is a beast of a Pokémon. Seriously, he’s an absolute tank. And just look at his design! Those pink little paw pads, his little nails, the cute little grin on his face. I would die for him. Not to be dramatic, or anything. Although he’s a super friendly lil Pokémon, trainers are advised to get him to show restraint when showing affection, as his hugs can kill you. Y’know what? What a way to go. His name doubling up as a pun only makes me love him more, too. Mismagius The final entry into Pokémon that deserve more love is this spooky bitch. I mean, she even has a witch’s hat – how cool is that?! Mismagius (what a badass name, by the way – it sounds as if it’s straight out of a fantasy novel), can put people to sleep, bring them misery and pain or joy and happiness. You don’t want to get on her bad side. I just love her spooky design, okay? That’s it for some of my favourite Pokémon that deserve more love and attention. What do you think?
