Are European Environmentalists Responsible for Brazilian Forest Fires?
Brazil's forests are on fire, but who is to blame? While we can't blame anyone for these fires, it is clear who will benefit from these firms. SInce 1999, Brazil's corn production has increased by 300%. This increase has been facilitated by the growing demand and price of corn. The EU-27's corn import over this same time period has increased 783%, much of this going to livestock feed. What does the EU have to do with the fires though? Its the policy on GM crops and growing demand which is helping to support fires and reclaiming the land for agriculture.
