Helmsley Spear announced the appointment of Andrew G. Simon as Executive Vice President of the company. He will focus on investment sales as well as commercial office leasing transactions. Simon brings more than over 35 years of varied real estate experience, initially as a leasing professional, and then transitioning to investment sales and capital markets. Simon has introduced off-shore institutional quality investors to local operators and developers to provide investment capital for repositioning of existing assets and provide equity partners for new acquisitions and developments. Prior to joining Helmsley Spear, Simon was with MHP Real Estate. He began his career at Herbert Charles & Co. in 1980, and then Jones Lang Wootton USA. He later worked at The Galbreath Company and Colliers ABR. Simon earned his Bachelor degree from Tufts University. He has closed leasing transactions in excess of 2.5 million square feet as well as closing investment sales of buildings in excess of 1,000,000 square feet. ••• Alexander Bogod, the brother of Broadway Realty founder Elliot Bogod, just joined the firm. Bogod brings decades of NYC real estate experience and knowledge to his residential and commercial clients. Born and raised in the Soviet Union, he moved to the US to study medicine in Long Island, but decided his true calling was real estate. In his 20s, he opened his own Upper West Side brokerage, Lincoln Square Realty, where he served buyers, renters and investors of NYC coops and condos. Bogod has extensive experience managing luxury apartments in NYC for investors and works with international and domestic clients to find New York City properties. ••• Case Real Estate Capital annouced that Aysha Cox, who is based in the company’s south Florida office, has been promoted to vice president. She will take a leadership role in sourcing and originating loans, underwriting and managing the company’s diverse investment portfolio. Eric Hakim has joined the company as an investment analyst. He will assist in the underwriting, due diligence and modeling of high-yield loans, and assist management in all aspects of origination. Previously, Hakim served as a quantitative equity/options analyst and assistant portfolio manager for Toro Fund, LP in Jupiter, Fla. Prior to that, he worked at The Clearing House Association in New York City and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Paramus, NJ. ••• DLA Piper announced that Chris M. Smith has joined the firm’s Real Estate practice as a partner in New York. He will serve as co-chair of the New York Real Estate practice. Smith’s practice includes all aspects of real estate, including joint ventures, funds, financing, direct investments, development and acquisitions and dispositions, both nationally and internationally. His diverse clients include banks, institutional investors, developers and individuals in leasing, renovations and condominium development of commercial office space and mixed use products, as well as real estate foreclosures and bankruptcies. His experience includes every major type of real estate product from residential developments to office buildings, shopping centers and hotels, public/private developments and complex ownership leasing structures. Smith, an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law, joins from Shearman & Sterling LLP. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.S. from Rutgers University. ••• The Commercial Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island (CIBS) announced that a new executive board has been elected. The new board members will serve two-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2019. They are: President, David Leviton. He is a managing director in the Melville office of JLL and previously was vice president of CIBS. He has more than 30 years of experience in office leasing and sales and has been involved in more than 600 transactions, representing both landlords and tenants, Vice President, Daniel J. Weiner, a senior director in the Melville office of Avison Young and formerly treasurer of CIBS. Treasurer, Michael Rosenfeld, an associate broker at The Rochlin Organizatio and previous secretary of CIBS. Secretary, Amanda Gorozdi, senior associate in the Melville office of Avison Young. Formerly a board member of the organization, she has been in the commercial real estate industry since 2011. Current president Kyle Burkhardt will become chair of the CIBS Advisory Board. He is a senior director in the Melville office of Cushman & Wakefield Inc. ••• Gautam Garg recently joined Elliott Management to cover the REIT equities space as a Structured Products and Real Estate Analyst to support the firm’s Structured Products and Real Estate Team. Gautam will be focusing on finding value opportunities through identifying mispricing in publicly traded REITs. Garg was a previously a portfolio manager/analyst on Lazard’s Global Real Estate Securities team. He began working in the investment field in 2006, joining Lazard as a research analyst in 2012 covering the global real estate investment trust (REIT) sector. Previously, he held similar roles at Credit Suisse and Moody’s. Gautam started his real estate investment career as an analyst in India. He holds a Masters n Business Administration from the University of Rochester, and a Bachelors (BE) in Engineering from Thapar University. ••• CBRE announced that veteran industrial real estate leader John Morris will join the company as the Americas Industrial & Logistics (I&L) Leader. Morris will join CBRE after certain employment restrictions have expired. Adam Mullen, who has been named Market Leader for the Philadelphia region effective on January 1, 2019, will continue to have strategic oversight for CBRE’s Industrial & Logistics business until Morris arrives. In addition, CBRE’s Chris Zubel will take on increased responsibilities in the I&L business. Morris previously led the Americas Industrial & Logistics business at Cushman & Wakefield. He also helped to lead the strategy for Cushman and Wakefield‘s retail business and worked to integrate logistics projects into the service of its retail clients. Morris has been an industry leader in network design and site selection for fulfillment, distribution and manufacturing operations.
