WMHT-TV, virtual channel 17, RF 34 is the local PBS TV station. It operates 89.1 WMHT-FM, a classical music station, and 97.7 WEXT, a class A FM station , playing adult album alternative licensed to and its transmitter location in Amsterdam, west of the immediate capital district. While I am not sure what WMHT is going to do with W291BY , a good guess might be simulcasting WEXT’s programming, to get a signal into downtown Albany. WEXT’s site is too far west to reach downtown Albany while W291BY looks down at it from its site on Bald Mountain, just north of Troy.
