This will be the official new thread for the coming and goings for Cleveland TV Personalities. Starting off. Sarah Phinney has announced she will be leaving WEWS to join WFTS in Tampa as a traffic anchor. Her last day is June 18th. June 22, 2018 at 4:59 pm #182909 MediaFan85Participant Speaking of WEWS, someone posted on Paul Kiska’s Facebook page that he’s no longer at the station. He had been there since 2000, so that is a shock. June 25, 2018 at 4:49 pm #182930 MediaFan85Participant WEWS News 5 news director leaving to take the ND post at WBBM CBS 2 in Chicago. This comes after News 5 won 19 local Emmys this past weekend. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/6/25/new-nd-in-windy-city June 25, 2018 at 9:34 pm #182940 Timothy BlanksParticipant Still looking for confirmation on Kiska… June 27, 2018 at 8:05 pm #182954 clevelandtvParticipant Timothy Blanks wrote: Still looking for confirmation on Kiska… Quote Good Luck, Paul! After being a reporter at Chan 5 News for nearly twenty years, Paul Kiska will be taking his talents elsewhere. We have worked with Paul on many stories in Lorain County over the years. He is a true professional and has earned the trust of many people in our community. That trust is as valuable as knowing how to put the Who, What, Why & Where together before the light on the camera goes on. TMC News facebook page June 29, 2018 at 6:32 pm #182969 MediaFan85Participant Shelby Miller is leaving WOIO/WUAB after two years, according to her Facebook page. Today (as of this posting) is her last day. June 29, 2018 at 10:11 pm #182972 DavidParticipant I also noticed 19 has a brand new reporter named Kendall Forward. She spent sometime in D.C. before joining 19. June 30, 2018 at 2:07 pm #182975 skiwestParticipant MediaFan85 wrote: Shelby Miller is leaving WOIO/WUAB after two years, according to her Facebook page. Hopefully she will pop up at another local station. Quote Won’t be anytime soon – she’s off to the land of Starbucks, Boeing, and the Space Needle (Seattle) July 1, 2018 at 9:26 am #182979 MediaFan85Participant Jennifer Auh has left WKYC and Cleveland for Fox 10 in Phoenix. She changed her social media pages to her current station. She first came to town at WEWS before moving to 3. July 1, 2018 at 10:28 am #182980 clevelandtvParticipant Nobody stays anymore. Local news is a dying bread too easy to just read stories on the internet and not watch it on TV. If I watch, I catch WKYC at 7pm. July 6, 2018 at 3:15 pm #183024 MediaFan85Participant FTVLive reports that two news managers at WEWS have been fired over the handling of an attempt to have a reporter get an interview with a rape victim in Newburgh Heights. The same city whose mayor is suing Channel 5 over an investigative report. The FTVLive story include the body camera footage of the city’s police chief confronting the WEWS crew before telling them to leave. The footage was also on the Facebook page of the Newburgh Heights Police Department where all of the residents applauded the police chief, and slammed Channel 5. It has since been taken, but reviews of anti-Channel 5 comments remain. July 6, 2018 at 3:16 pm #183025 MediaFan85Participant WEWS has hired a new investigative reporter from Houston named Scott Noll, and he’s already reporting for the station. He’s also a Cleveland native. July 6, 2018 at 7:21 pm #183027 tim131Participant In TV, even radio….Cleveland has for a few decades been a larger market to work in to get experience and then those with enough talent & desire to move up to major markets for bigger bucks. Some make lateral market size moves to warmer climates. This really isn’t that new a trend. The only real change of late is TV & radio stations cutting staff sizes, hiring younger/cheaper, and losing some audience & increasingly greater advertising revenues to on line sites. July 11, 2018 at 8:14 pm #183088 MediaFan85Participant Janessa Webb is leaving WEWS for NBC News and MSNBC, according to this tweet on MSNBC’s Twitter page. WEWS is also now looking for a new assistant news director in addition to a news director.
