November 6, 2017 at 5:09 pm #178096 Bill RectoParticipant Report: 21st Century Fox Holding Talks to Sell Its Studios, Cable Entertainment Nets to Disney This includes Mainly the studio and entertainment properties of Fox going to Disney. Note Fox Owned Stations and Fox News are not included in this deal. November 6, 2017 at 6:21 pm #178101 Joseph_Gallant I could see a scenario where Fox’s cable sports assets also get sold to Disney and get folded into the ESPN Networks Group. This way, ESPN could pay less for the national cable rights to some sports properties since they’d eliminate a competitor. But for this to work, Fox’s broadcast network would likely have to partner with a cable sports programmer for “joint ventures” where Fox’s broadcast network and a cable sports network would share events. But Washington might shoot down such a scenario since ESPN might become even more powerful in sports that D.C. might say “No!”. Movies including Brave and Wreck-It Ralph will have their UK TV premiere on new channel Sky Movies Disney, as part of a new multi-year film output deal between BSkyB and the Hollywood studio. Sky Movies Disney will launch on 28 March as a new addition to Sky’s pay-TV film channels lineup, replacing Disney Cinemagic. Other animated titles from Disney and Pixar, including Tinker Bell: Secrets of the Wings and upcoming releases Oz: The Great and Powerful, Monsters University and The Lone Ranger, will also have their first UK TV showing on Sky Movies Disney. The deal also gives Sky access to Disney films for its video on demand services Sky Go, Now TV and On Demand. Sky declined to reveal the length of its new Disney deal. But in the face of increased competition for Hollywood movie rights from US VOD service Netflix, which launched in the UK in early 2012, Sky has now renewed exclusive pay-TV deals with four out of the six major studios – Disney, Sony, Universal and Warner Bros – since September. As part of the deal the Sky Movies channels will have the UK TV premieres of future releases by Lucasfilm, recently acquired by Disney, including new Star Wars films; and Marvel titles including Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3.
