‘Cross DJ’ for iPad Review!
Purchasing and owning DJ equipment can be pretty expensive -- buying the software, hardware, and external speakers doesn't come cheap. Luckily though, the folks over at MixVibes have created an application that combines the software and hardware into one with their Cross DJ for iPad app. Right off the bat you can tell that Cross DJ has a very crisp, clean, and polished interface that isn't cluttered by any means. Everything that you need to use is right there and easily accessible without having to dig through endless menus and settings. Have a Retina Display iPad? No worries about that -- Cross DJ also comes with high-quality graphics made for the Retina Display, so you don't need to worry about the UI (user interface) being pixelated and not looking very good. It doesn't stop here though, it gets a lot better. While there isn't a very big nor very small selection of DJ apps for the iPad -- some DJ apps can be very basic and not have many features while some may be too complicated and cluttered with unnecessary options. So, this is where Cross DJ comes in. Cross DJ comes with all the standard things you would expect for a DJ app -- crossfader, ability to sync tracks, two song decks, equalizer, etc -- but kicks it up a huge notch. Cross DJ comes with Music/iTunes integration, Live Beat grid edit, 14 different audio effects ranging from Low-Pass to Flanger and any more features. Rather than me listing everything off, you can see a quick list below. 2 vinyl decks with realistic scratch Ultra-accurate synchronization and ultra-fast beat matching Parallel waveforms and track overview display Audio via Bluetooth Multi-audio for USB compliant multichannel soundcard External mixer audio routing mode (channel A and B are routed to different outputs) Direct access to your iPhone iTunes library Sort tracks by BPM, title, artist, album or genre 14 Audio FX: Low-Pass, Hi-Pass, Echo, Delay, Phaser, X-Phaser, Flanger, Jet, Chopper, Crush, Brake, Roll, Cut, Bliss X/Y control pad for FX Live Beat grid edit Auto loops (1/8 to 16 beats) Slip mode loops 6 hot cues per track Split output function for headphones monitoring* Pitch fader and pitch bend Pitch range from 4% to 100% Complete DJ Mixer with 3-band EQ, volume faders, cross-fader and level meters Compatibility with most Bluetooth receivers for cable-free mixing So as you can tell, Cross DJ is jam packed with A LOT of features yet still remains with an uncluttered and nice looking UI. Continuing on, I've been able to spend a good few hours using the Cross DJ for iPad and I have to say, it's very fun to use and mix songs. Granted I am no expert or the best by any means, however, with the app it is easy to learn and catch on. So with that in mind, that's the beauty of Cross DJ -- it's perfect for beginners or even pros. The app is simple enough for a beginner like me to get the hang of things yet packs enough punch for a professional DJ to make lots of good use out of it. Seen as how we've covered most of the app so far, let's talk about the price... Cross DJ for iPad will set you back $9.99 which may seem like a lot of money. But is it justifiable? Absolutely. If you're a beginner, amateur, or even a pro Cross DJ is worth giving a look into and I highly recommend it. Don't have an iPad? No worries about that, there's even an iPhone version available that's just as good. Happy DJing! Rating 5/5 Stars
