Writing Class: Creative Nonfiction Instructor: C.W. Cannon Location: NOCCA Institute When: Wednesdays from February 28 to April 25 from 7pm to 9pm Cost: $325 "Writing Creative Nonfiction" aims to help students develop and perfect the skill of writing well-crafted creative essays. Creative nonfiction is a unique blend of genres that draws on elements of fiction as well as essay. Like fiction, the creative essay values a compelling story, as well as sharp and memorable detail. However, the essay allocates more room for reflection and analysis than contemporary short fiction typically allows for. Students interested in telling their own story, based on real life events, and then reflecting on the story's meaning for themselves and others, will benefit from this class. We will read examples of professional, published creative nonfiction, but our main focus will be on reading each others' work and offering productive feedback for improvement in a workshop setting.
