Diathermy (Electrocautery): Lung Cancer Treatment
Among various treatment methods available for lung cancer, Diathermy is one of them. This treatment method utilizes electrical current to destroy cancer cells. Diathermy is also called by names of electrocautery or thermocautery. Here, we discuss about the treatment method, how it is conduced, for whom it is suitable and the side effects. Diathermy (Electrocautery) For those lung cancer patients, where the tumor blocks one of the larger airways and thereby causing problem with breathing, Diathermy is used. Thus, this lung cancer treatment is generally given when the cancer is blocking an airway and making it difficult for the lung cancer patient to breathe. The tumors are removed by Diathermy resection where it happens through a tube put down the wind pipe. Then, the electric current is passed through a probe with the purpose of destroying tumor tissues blocking the airway. The doctor then takes out the bronchoscopy tube. It may be used alongside with other treatments. Preparing For
