If you don't have any plans today, do yourself a favour and take the trip to Little Venice (Warwick Avenue or Maida Vale tube station) where you'll be in for a family style treat. The canal is absolutely packed with 100+ narrowboats (decked out in more bunting than I've ever seen anywhere ever) for the Bank Holiday weekend, and the banks are heaving with stall-holders, refreshments, Morris Dancers and other brilliant festivities. There's loads for the kids to do, from face painting to a huge paddling pool with amazing little motorised boats. I wanted a go. I wasn't allowed. These things are never fair. Apparently the Canalway Cavalcade has been happening for years - I'd somehow never heard of it but it's a lot of fun.
