In our first feature, we’re sitting down with Kamie Kennedy, Chief Revenue Officer of Pact. Known for their consciously-made clothing, Pact’s authentically transparent business model inspired us to learn more about the importance of sustainability in fashion. With a focus on certified organic cotton materials and a fair-trade labor approach, their mission is to change the apparel industry for good. We sat down with Kamie to learn more about Pact’s brand origins, their scalable business model and what’s coming up next for this socially-conscious brand. How did you get started? Is there any special meaning behind the name? Pact got started 10 years ago; we like to think we were doing organic before organic was cool. Our goal is to democratize sustainable textiles by providing quality products at accessible prices – bringing the purest ingredients direct from the farm to people’s closets. ✧ ✧ ✧ Educate us! Why is sustainability in the fashion industry so important? In what ways does Pact embody sustainability? The textile industry is the 2nd most toxic, polluting industry on earth. We want people to have alternative, healthier options for themselves and the planet without sacrificing style, comfort or expense. We do this in 2 ways: we use 100% organic cotton and only work with Fair-Trade certified factories where workers are respected and paid premiums to invest back in their communities or themselves. ✧ ✧ ✧ Tell us about the conscious consumer who loves Pact. What are a few words that describe her style and vibe? She’s a consumer who wants to live an organic lifestyle for her and her whole family without sacrificing style, comfort or expense. While she’ll never be perfect, she knows that small things can make a big difference. Organic clothes have a specific stereotype in terms of an aesthetic – “crunchy”, “outdoorsy”, “neutral colors”. We are making organic fashionable and bold so she can express her style without sacrificing her value. I’d describe her style and vibe as urban nature. ✧ ✧ ✧ As a business owner, do you have any advice for others looking to scale their own business? You must make your “reason for being” known to the customer. They want to back brands and people who are passionate and driven by things more than success and money. ✧ ✧ ✧ Tell us one thing that you consider vital in contributing to the success of your business. We’ve never faltered from our core values – good ingredients and treating all people fairly. ✧ ✧ ✧ Do you have a favorite quote or mantra you live by? “It’s what within that matters” – true of clothes and people. ✧ ✧ ✧ We’d love to know – what’s coming up next for Pact that you’re most excited about? Two things: we’re launching Towels & Maternity. Towels in June, Maternity in fall. Our fall collection is completely fresh and more fashion forward.
