Over the last 25 years as a speaker on future trends and innovation, I've seen many cases where companies have jumped onto a trend simply because everyone else. Or, they've suddenly decided that 'innovation' is important, without really defining a purpose or goal behind such a focus. Innovation that is based on 'jumping on the bandwagon' is doomed to fail, for many, many reasons: it's lazy: true innovation takes hard work.
