Dallas ISD offers more than 100 innovative programs, camps to help reduce summer slide | Informate DFW
DALLAS — Summertime is around the corner, which means a much needed break is upon us. But, it’s also the perfect time for students to enjoy fun-filled enrichment activities to reduce the chance of the summer slide effect, which researchers say can happen when students take a few months off from learning. To help prevent summer learning loss, Dallas ISD is partnering with the city of Dallas and nonprofits throughout the city to offer hundreds of summer programs and enrichment opportunities for students of all ages. Filling the summer with hands-on, out-of-the-box activities will not only keep students productively engaged, but will also help retain the academic learning achieved during the school year. Activities will range from band and leadership camps, to dance, sports, robotics, reading and art programs. Families can learn about and register students for these and other free activities at the Discover Summer Fair from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 27, at Billy Earl Dade Middle School, located at 2727 Al Lipscomb Way. All summer programs are free, and registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis. To learn more about summer programs offered, visitdallasisd.org/discoversummer. Enrollment dates vary per program and campus.
