EXCELLENCE Artwork Explanation - ICGC Holy Ghost Temple
EXCELLENCE ARTWORK EXPLANATION This year’s artwork is a very rich work. It is a slight departure from the format we have used in the last few years. THE BACKGROUND The background of the work is based on John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. We have represented this in the vine and the fruits it bears. So you will see the vine with its branches and fruits spread all over the background. This is done to show that our Excellence begins with us abiding in Christ. That is when we are able to bear fruit. It also shows that without Him we can do nothing but with Him we can do all things. The background is divided into two main sides. The left side is very colourful and the right side is a monochrome (different shades of the same colour). The left side shows our spiritual life. The right side shows our natural life. Within the background we also have some symbols found in our church cloth. THE RUNNING TRACK The golden running track on the left depicts pursuing spiritual Excellence. It is based on Philippians 3:13–14 (NKJV) — 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. On the race track is a male athlete running a race with hurdles in front of him. The end of the race is the ‘upward call of God in Christ’, symbolized with a golden cross. We must excel spiritually. THE STAIRCASE The staircase on the right depicts pursuing Excellence in our work. The staircase is of a different material from the racetrack. Whereas the racetrack is golden, the staircase is silver (concrete). It shows that our natural life is very important but not as valuable as the spiritual pursuit. It is based on 1 Corinthians 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. It also reflects Proverbs 22:29 Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men. Excellence will make us stand on the stage of kings/queens. On the staircase is a female corporate executive climbing up. Each step requires effort to step up. She represents the discipline and effort we must apply to Excel in our work. The staircase leads to a silver crown. We must excel naturally. THE CENTERPIECE HANDS, POT AND GOLD COINS The center piece has a clay pot with cracks in it full of treasure (gold coins). The pot is in the hands of Jesus. You can see the prints of nail in Jesus’s hands. It is based …
